Perspectives on the Dodd Decision Overruling Roe v. Wade
American Thinker ^ | June 26, 2022 | Clarice Feldman

There has been much perfervid shouting and rending of garments (or these days, parading about with red splotches on the crotches of their clothing or performative displays in Handmaid's Tale costumes -- red hooded capes) to protest the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. On the other hand, those opposed to abortion hail this decision, claiming abortions will end or be much reduced.

Neither side is right. I believe the decision will not substantially lessen the number of abortions. On the other hand, I do think that it signals a significant retreat from the days when the Supreme Court creatively crafted imaginary rights to strip the states of their constitutional role. Federalism is back.

I also believe the attorney general’s response to the rioting and threats by Roe proponents and to the Bruen decision on gun ownership reveals him as a man insufficiently respectful of the Supreme Court and unwilling to perform his sworn duty to impartially enforce the law. He deserves to be impeached.

Every day that Merrick Garland remains in office confirms his unfitness for the job. And the propriety of the decision to exclude him from the supreme court.

I’m having a hard time understanding two things from the Left:
1) The protests in CA and NY where nothing will change.
2) various Democrat state officials saying that they will “disregard” the ruling that made it a state matter. How does that work? Especially when most of them are in states where nothing will change.

“Federalism is back.”
For now. But the left is doing everything they can think of to move us into a socialist/communist Utopia.
We must remain ever vigilant.

Only one perspective....the holocaust ought be over. Slower, but worse in numbers and victim relarion. The worst of the worst sin, the ‘silentist’ in more ways the more one thinks about it.

Harming the least of the little ones.

Read that slowly and let your lips move.

The battle front has just changed if so.

The federal bureaucracy will become even more important to the left, they will ignore the law and constitution even more.

States will ignore federal policy more and more and be less controlled by federal money?

I’m having a hard time understanding two things from the Left:

There was a psychological study I remember from college, (scrubbed from the internet). If I remember right the options were either share the prize 50/50 with someone else or destroy it so no one could have it. A large percentage of participants chose to destroy it rather than share. (get part of what they wanted)

A conservative understands the nature of man. Man is evil.

It is the end of beginning of the slow movement toward the end of abortion!

I will not live to that, but I am convinced that sometimes, in the future, they will teach children in history classes about the barbaric past when they used to kill children, just because!

Kind of like they now teach about the horrors of slavery.

Federalism is back.

Until the next pandemic.

Seriously, our 2022 federal budget’s mandatory spending is $4.018 trillion; discretionary spending is $1.688 trillion. These numbers indicate a powerful and dominant federal entity.

Title has Dodd decision (financial regulatory reform legislation), but it should be Dobbs decision, based on Mississippi law in the landmark Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization case.

Am I correct with my above statement, or am I just getting a year older and a lot more confused? 😋

Just remember, the more anarchy we see from lib cities, the more prepared we must be to meet such evil. The cities belong to the democrats. In yptheir minds, control the cities, you control the county and state.

In the era of lockdowns and vaccine passports and, especially, the emergence of social credit systems, federal power no longer looked so benign.

If enormous federal power ever looked “benign” to you, or even seemed to you like something that could be “benign”, you are remarkably stupid.

This decision deals a devastating blow to reproductive freedom in the United States.

I would love for Garland, or anyone else, to explain exactly how aborting an unborn child has anything to do with “reproductive freedom.”

“Especially when most of them are in states where nothing will change.”

It actually makes it even easier to remove whatever little restrictions they might have had. It will allow dismemberment of the unborn on demand any time, no fake mother’s health excuse necessary.

This ruling was all about states rights, nothing else. And even that was limited as the justices themselves, with the exception of Thomas, said that they would not apply the same reasoning to other states rights issues, such as homosexual marriage.

One of the consequence of this ruling is it will further separate red and blue states ideologically, making an eventual secession more likely. True believers on either side of this divide may start voting with their feet and accentuate the differences even more.

No intense shouting or fervor is needed. The 50 year mistake of the government endorsing the right for a female to dispatch a fetus is no longer for any reason in its purview. Never should have been. Everything about our Constitution is about limiting Federal Government power and keeping that potential monster in check.

Deal with it. You want action? Go try your MSM hysterics at the local and state level then.

There might not be a huge impact on the total number of abortions but it is a death knell for late term abortions. Congress once the Republicans gain control will attempt to ban third trimester abortions and the left will sue to black the legislation. Then one of two things will happen. Either the Supreme Court will allow congress to legislate abortion nationally or they will rule congress does not have an enumerated power in the constitution that allows them to make abortion law. I’d bet on the later and the left becoming even more enraged that their own law suit screwed them on not just this but likely a bunch of other issues as well.

From Tocqueville...

“There is, in fact, a manly and lawful passion for equality which excites men to wish all to be powerful and honored. This passion tends to elevate the humble to the rank of the great; but there exists also in the human heart a depraved taste for equality, which impels the weak to attempt to lower the powerful to their own level, and reduces men to prefer equality in slavery to inequality with freedom.”
