These US companies will cover travel costs for employees who need an abortion

After the Supreme Court ruled on Friday to overturn Roe v. Wade, corporate giants from a range of industries pledged to provide support and financial assistance for employees - and, in some cases, their dependents - seeking abortions in states that outlaw the procedure.

The court's decision to roll back the nearly 50-year-old landmark ruling, which protected the federal, constitutional right to an abortion, is expected to transform the landscape of reproductive health in America, leaving abortion policy up to individual states and paving the way for numerous states to pass new abortion restrictions. As of Friday afternoon, state officials in at least seven states said that new abortion bans can now be enforced.

Millions of people seeking abortions could soon be forced to travel across state lines to access the procedure, adding to the cost of an already often expensive healthcare service. For many, employers' benefit packages may be the only way they can afford an abortion.

In response, corporations, some with headquarters or offices in Republican-controlled states, are taking action. Companies such as Citigroup, Salesforce and Match Group first promised financial support to employees seeking abortions in affected states after a draft version of the opinion leaked in May. Many more followed suit on Friday. Some, including Bumble and Lyft, also previously said they would donate to organizations that support women's rights, such as Planned Parenthood and Fund Texas Choice.

She might not be dissuaded but she has the option and the company will save money long term if the employee gets the abortion, obviously it won’t happen in every case but for each employee who chooses abortion the company saves money until they tire of you and you get fired because of poor performance by the company

That’s true. Provided that the ‘healthcare’ plans for which they pay all or part of actually do adequately provide those benefits.

I’d be willing to bet money all the major companies listed have maternity benefits in their healthcare plans and now abortion benefits

If she traveled to a state where abortion is legal and has the abortion there, she hasn’t committed a crime in the state where abortion is illegal.

Kind of surprised some people are talking along the lines of states limiting where people can travel (or even monitoring where they travel). The freedom to travel between states unmolested has been one of our core liberties since the beginning, right up there with the right to bear arms and the right to free speech.

in a state where abortion is illegal, she would be seen as the guardian of the child.

if that child suddenly went missing, a murder investigation would have to be held.

if she were found to have traveled somewhere to carry out her plans to have the child killed, she would be responsible for the murder... regardless of the laws of that state or country... as she lives under the laws of the anti-abortion state

That isn’t how it works. The laws of one state apply to what happens in that state, but not other states.

tell that to US citizens busted for traveling to countries for sex with minors, where it’s legal, but get prosecuted for it when they get back.
