Something similar happened during Desert Storm. The missile made a turn and smashed into a building. I believe the fix was to turn off the missile until you were ready to fire it.

Exactly. They’re wasting their SAM missiles to attack ground targets. Especially using their Crimean based SAM air defense missiles to attack Nikolaev and Odessa ground targets. Not enough cruise missiles available for the job.
Only beneficial thing for Russia is the Crimea defense SAMs used against ground targets in Nikolaev and Odessa are hard to shoot down so they usually get past Ukrainian air defenses. But it leaves Crimea more and more at risk.
