Some customers surprised DTE is controlling their A/C through energy-saving program

Customers say they didn't know they were part of CoolCurrent, an energy saving program which allows their air conditioning could be turned off by DTE

DTE Energy sent out an email Tuesday notifying many of its customers they were part of an energy saving program called CoolCurrent. The email explained to customers that their air conditioning could be cycled on and off during periods of peak energy demand.

Many customers like Sergio Montanez said they were unaware they were part of the program.

The CoolCurrent program involves actually stopping the air conditioner at the source 15 minutes on, 15 minutes off for no more than eight hours in a 24-hour window. Boladian, however, said it’s typically done for no more than four hours at a time.

..."I wanted to cancel it. And that's exactly what I did." Sergio Montanez

So you put in a system with a variable speed compressor, just a nice steady speed to meet demand. And the utility turns it off every 15 minutes???

Most AC compressors have only two speeds; on or off.

If you hammer the gas from every stop sign, not good for your MPG and increases engine wear.

SUCH A DEAL!

And how does DTE accomplish this? Were houses forced to install remote switches on their ACs or the AC disconnect? Are theor “Smart devices” spying on them? Hmmm.

You will own nothing.
You will have no control over your life.
And you will be happy.

And if you’re not happy, that’s what euthanasia is for.

Easy peasy, simply interrupt the 24 volts to the thermostat.

Once the smart meter is installed it can talk to other comparable devices.

Pulsing an HVAC compressor can cause a phenomenon called “flood-back,” which will destroy it.

We hear rumors that PG&E is doing the same thing with their smart meters, which we all have.

I have sleep apnea, and supposedly have a more reliable power service as per our health provider, for my CPap machine.

That may only work at night after 9 pm during our recent heat wave.

I’ve paid $5.00/month for ten tears to not have a smart type meter.

Yep that is how they do it. also applies to the water heater. I am in Florida and that is how FPL does it. I signed up more than 10 years ago and got a $10,00 discount per month of my electrical bill.

So at this point I have saved $1440 and if they cut off the electricity to the AC and Water Heater for a day, i can always spend the day at a hotel.

And regarding the whiney guy from Detroit who did not know, he is lying.

>>Pulsing an HVAC compressor can cause a phenomenon called “flood-back,” which will destroy it.

But that’s a GOOD thing because it will encourage people to buy newer, more energy efficient HVAC compressors. </biden>

I know in Florida they really push you to have the kill switch installed on your AC by offering you a discount on your bill.
I don’t know how much the discount is, because I would never allow it.

The power company Florida Power and Light offered a deal in the early 1980’s where you got a minimal discount for letting the company periodically cut your air conditioning off. It was supposed to last only fifteen minutes. But then we had some power issues that caused FPL to spend extra money to buy power off the grid during a heatwave. So, they just turned the air in my house off. Modern houses are not meant to be without air conditioning. I called and complained and basically was told, tough. I cancelled the next day.
