PHOENIX — Phoenix Mercury star Brittney Griner tried to call her wife nearly a dozen times through the American embassy in Russia on the couple’s fourth anniversary Saturday, but they never connected since the phone line at the embassy was not staffed, Cherelle Griner said Monday.
The couple has not spoken by phone in the four months since Griner's arrest in Russia on drug-related charges. That was to have changed Saturday, when a long-awaited call was to have finally taken place. But the day came and went without any contact, leaving an anguished Cherelle Griner to wonder what went wrong and to suspect at least initially that Russian authorities had thwarted the call.

I don't doubt the Russian government (or the FBI) is capable of doing evil things like planting drugs (or much worse), but why would the Russians bother? I never even heard of Brittney Griner until this thread.
I wouldn't be shocked to learn that a professional athlete carried illegal drugs in his or her luggage, either.

The lesson here: When traveling overseas, don’t think you are in the US and do not carry illegal substances in your baggage.

According to HER, they “planted” the drugs. I doubt that is the case and the claim is very self-serving. But you bought it, so there’s that.
She hates our country and it looks like she’s also pretty dumb to bring weed into a foreign country. Sucks to be her, but that probably was the case before she screwed up.
