Residents of Montana's largest city are warned water supply could run out in 36 HOURS after the only local treatment plant was inundated by devastating floods that have also closed Yellowstone National Park 'indefinitely' for first time in decades

The largest city in the state of Montana faced running out of fresh water within 36 hours after Billings' only local treatment plant was overwhelmed by the devastating flood waters that have closed Yellowstone National Park.

Billings had a just a 24-to 36-hour supply of water and officials asked its 110,000 residents to conserve after water levels became too high for it to function.

The water is shown clearly destroying a red gantry that allows treatment plant employees to access the main building. Officials insisted that the water is still safe to drink, but is in low supply.

Heavy weekend rains and melting mountain snow had the Yellowstone River flowing at a historically high level of 16 feet as it raced past Billings.

Video showed raging waters that rushed through Yellowstone National Park and surrounding communities earlier this week moving through Montana's largest city, flooding farms and ranches and forcing the shutdown of its treatment plant.

The city gets its water from the river and was forced to shut down its treatment plant at about 9:30 a.m. because it can't operate effectively with water levels that high.

'None of us planned a 500-year flood event on the Yellowstone when we designed these facilities,' said Debi Meling, the city's public works director.

The water plant reopened but at an extremely low capacity late Wednesday night, according to KTVQ. Conservation orders remain in place.

The city also stopped watering parks and boulevards, and its fire department was filling its trucks with water from the Yellowstone River.

Cory Mottice, with the National Weather Service in Billings, said the river was expected to crest Wednesday evening and drop below minor flood stage, 13.5 feet, by mid-to-late Thursday.

Major water cutbacks loom as shrinking Colorado River nears ‘moment of reckoning’

JUNE 14, 2022

As the West endures another year of unrelenting drought worsened by climate change, the Colorado River’s reservoirs have declined so low that major water cuts will be necessary next year to reduce risks of supplies reaching perilously low levels, a top federal water official said Tuesday.

Oh yes, because before those evil SUVs came on the scene, we never had droughts.

“worsened by climate change”

yet i used to think how silly it was that certain civilizations worshipped sun gods or rain gods etc......

yet we should all pray to the climate god that he doesnt get angry at our misbehavior and punish us with weather patterns.

Preppers ping. Water is a critical resource. Make sure you have some source or capability to filtrate water.

Biden: “When did people stop sacrificing virgins in volcanoes? I think that is what is causing all of this ecological problems. I think we should immediately restart that program to prevent more of these Climate Change disasters”.

Well, you should have. It’s your job.

The best filters; http://doultonusa.com/HTML%20pages/ceramic_candles_gravity.htm

They are the ones everyone copied that are called Berkey style filters. Doulton, formerly Fairey Industries, are the inventor and created them for the UK military.

How to assemble the filters into two 5 gallon buckets to make a gravity drip water filtering system.

Similar thing happened in Des Moines in record 1993 flooding. No city water for several weeks if I recall correctly.

A city of 250,000.

Great instructional video.

How long does it take for 5 gallons of water to filter into the bottom buckle, using two filters?
