The CDC estimates that two Omicron subvariants experts have been watching closely now account for more than 7 percent of New England COVID-19 cases.
The BA.4 subvariant accounts for 4.4 percent of cases, while the BA.5 subvariant accounts for 2.8 percent, the public health agency estimates.
Nationally, BA.4 accounts for 5.4 percent of cases, while BA.5 accounts for an estimated 7.6 percent, according to the CDC estimates.
The subvariants BA.2.12.1 and BA.2 still account for many more cases both nationally and in New England. In New England, BA.2.12.1 accounts for 64.5 percent of cases and BA.2 accounts for 28.3 percent of cases.
But experts say the new subvariants, first identified in South Africa, could end up elbowing out BA.2.12.1 and BA.2, just as those two variants elbowed out the BA.1 subvariant before them.
“We are probably past the peak of the BA.2.12.1 wave,” said Dr. Jacob Lemieux, an infectious disease specialist at Massachusetts General Hospital, who is also coleader of the viral variants program at the Massachusetts Consortium on Pathogen Readiness. “We’re at the beginning of seeing the impact of BA.4 and 5, which are the South African variants . . . and we do think they’re more transmissible and likely going to cause some surge in cases or, at least, that’s a real possibility.”
He said over the next few weeks, until around July 4, he expected “fairly sustained transmission” that would hopefully get a little better as the BA.2.12.1 wave passes but that could get “a little bit worse” as BA.4 and BA.5 account for more cases. “We’re going to be seeing a lot of ongoing acute COVID likely into the summer,” he said, “and there may even be a resurgence in the fall and winter.”

"[C]rafted in a laboratory in China," perhaps, but by no means designed by the ChiComs. The so-called Chinese "Bat Woman" is no whiz-kid virologist. By no means. Anything that she may happen to know she was taught by UNC's Ralph Baric. On her own, the woman probably couldn't get a job in this country as a dental hygienist.
The fact is, those ultimately responsible for SARS-COV-2 reside within the U.S. military establishment. Which is why the truth of the matter will never be brought to light.
This is why so many morons in my area keep walking around with the face nappies either on their faces at all times or (more commonly) with the masks on their wrists so that they can put on whenever they are indoors. Most of the time it’s one of those cheap disposable surgical masks that do absolutely nothing - really wish these folks would just disappear or not breed.
Defund the CDC.
CDC has no credibility.
Felt like the worst allergies I ever had. Was surprised it was COVID myself...
LOL! Yep, I’m so scared..not. So ridiculous
My favorite part of this hoax is they never tell you what the symptoms of these new sub variants are. That way everything you catch can be covid.
I picked up a bug last Thursday. Slight headache and low grade fever overnight then that subsided on day two followed by a cough and runny nose. I took some montelukast I have kicking around and my steroid inhaler plus my albuterol inhaler, Tylenol, colloidal silver and our homemade HCQ. Today I’m practically over it. Was it covid? Who knows?
My 24 year old son had a bad cold about a week ago. He tested himself three times. All negative. I think it was a combination of allergies and the cold.
“with these variants or subvariants will die?
*THAT* is the most important question.”

Two years ago antibody studies in three different places by three different groups showed that the vast majority of those infected with sars2 did not even know they were.
Only a tiny fraction have died.
Covid hysteria and exploitation has been terrible.
Well New England is highly vaccinated, leaving their immune systems compromised. Plus, it appears the highly vaccinated areas are where the new variants emerge and thrive and, of course, have their most severe impacts. Almost like it was strategically implemented or something, eh.
🔬🦠😵💫😷💉🐂💩🤡
The CDC has basically admitted the Booster does nothing for the variants.
ABC world news tonight, a few weeks ago, even recommended NOT getting the current booster and to wait for the new one.
I couldn’t believe they actually said that out loud.
Gotta keep the fear-train rollin’ ...
What about the double secret Delta House variant?
A DNA son in his healthy mid 50’s and a non DNA son, who adopted us, also, in his healthy mid 50’s had this Delta Variant last July/August.
It hit them fairly hard, and they took the “Stay out of the hospital!” multi drug outpatient/not really legal treatment.
They were over the Delta Crud in about a week.
Their wives never had anything, no fever/aches or any symptoms.
Their Children from 20 to late teens to 4 and 7 had nothing.
No one was vaccinated before, during or after the Delta Crud.
It was apparently double top secret. They live in 2 different counties and had 2 different FP/Docs. Apparently UCSF’s and maybe Stanford’s labs identified the virus and couldn’t show the docs. Somehow, their docs found out.
RE: Death count, not rate, is all that matters.
OK, what are the death counts from Omicron in the USA since it has been discovered here, and of the 7% detected ( as per the CDC ) that are BA.4 and BA.5, how many have died?
I’d like to compare the death counts to those who died of flu/influenza.
Brought to you from the ILLEGAL ILLIGRANTS flown in by joey. He wants to pay them, with OUR money, to VOTE DEM. Before that they are here to bring DISEASE to your door. Joey says TY for letting him get away with TREASON.
Your comments seem incredibly on target. Can you post some links with that uncover the UNC scientist?
2 weeks ago covid finally visited our house - my suspicions are the vaxxed are being the spreaders and offloading a high viral load - in our case the unvaxxed at our house had the worse symptoms. But I will take my natural immunity and protection over the RNA vax shot anyday.
I had Covid back in March and figured "no way I have it again already" ... and yet two tests in two days said I did.
So I got the "double whammy" having the double inner ear infection with my immune system down, and getting covid again.
When I finally felt better from the double-inner ear infection, I couldn't even tell whether or not I had covid.
For the record: I'm not one of the "double-vaxxed/triple boosted" crowd. I've had covid three times:
March 2020 (discovered during an antibody test in June 2020)
March 2022, tested positive after having fever, body aches, shivering, etc..
May 2022, tested positive after oldest son who lives with me did, and while I had a double inner ear infection
The first time I had it in March 2020 was the worst. It felt like I was hit by a truck and was down for the count for 9 days.
March 2022 wasn't bad, it was more like a severe cold with aches and chills for four days, then it rapidly went away.
May 2022 I honestly didn't even know I had it. The double inner ear infection felt way worse than anything else.
Bucket of BS.
Tested himself three times? That by itself qualifies as a “new variant” of the Fauci Flu debacle.
