I have been watching Hana and Kotaro for awhile. They are so well behaved. I love their birthdays. Special goodies!

So otters make good pets? Can they be housebroken? Do they like to swim in bathtubs or swimming pools? Do they do well when allowed to mate and have babies?

One wonders why so few animals have become human pets--cats and dogs, of course; maybe rabbits, certain fish, certain birds, a few other species, horses I suppose.

Are otters good candidates?

I’d imagine that most of these are better off as wild animals. I think these are unusual situations where they were abandoned as babies and humans found and cared for them, and then they bond with them. You can’t just take one of these animals out of the wild.

Note it does not say owners’ arm, why is that?

The “owner” is her human dad and she obviously has bonded with him to consider him such.

And to think, some folks just can’t understand why many people prefer animals to humans . . . :-)

I think this particular species is called the Asian or Oriental small-clawed otter. I've been watching these videos for a while and those two are adorable and well cared for.
We used to view sea otters regularly when commercial fishing in Alaska, also kind of small like these two, but the North American river otters are huge in comparison and would not make good pets. Saw a dead one up close, nearly as big as a labrador retriever with scary claws.

Makes sense, since the videos are from Asia. :-)

‘Ring of Bright Water’ is a great memoir of a man’s experience with otters. They made a movie of it later.
