Obi-Wan Kenobi Writer Appears To Be Oblivious Of Revenge Of The Sith, Has No Clue Kenobi Knew Anakin Was Darth Vader

Obi-Wan Kenobi writer Joby Harold recently discussed the latest Disney+ Star Wars show and appeared to reveal that he had no idea that Kenobi knew that Anakin Skywalker became Darth Vader.

Speaking with TheWrap, Harold revealed he didn’t originally pitch Kenobi not knowing that Darth Vader survived their battle.

He said, “That was actually not something I pitched originally. That was something I discovered along the way, and sort of had to confirm with Pablo [Hidalgo] and really think, ‘Hold on a second, what does he actually know?'”

From there, Harold listed off a string of questions with one of them implying he and the team at Lucasfilm working on this show do not realize that Obi-Wan Kenobi knows that Anakin Skywalker is Darth Vader.

He questioned, “‘Does he know the moniker Vader? What would that mean? Can he associate the two? What was he cognizant of? How isolated is he? Where’s Vader at that time? Where’s his reputation and how well known is he?’ and all those pieces of the puzzle.”

You know, I am not an expert story writer, but it would seem the basic thing if you are going to be writing a storyline that takes place within an established storyline, you would watch the material that takes place before and after it so you know what it is you are actually writing about. It is beyond clear in both the movies that take place before and after this timeline that Obi-Wan knew Anakin was Darth Vader. It is also clear that the meeting between them on the Death Star was the first time they had seen each other since the last time they fought on Mustafar, and they blow that aspect up as well.

This series, like virtually all of Disney Star Wars, is garbage completely disrespecting the storyline.

I see I (again) missed nothing by not being subscribed to Disney SJW Plus to watch this series.

As long as they get that sweet, sweet diversity in the storyline, that’s all that matters.

Actually this is headline grabbing nonsense.

At the end of the prequels Obi wan left aniline for dead.. he did not know he had been rescued and made into Vader…

By the original Star Wars he knew who he was…

This story happens between the two… so it is the moment he learned Anakin is not dead which he thinks he is, but is alive and now Vader.

After Revenge of the Sith, it is assumed that Kenobi leaves Anakin to die. Kenobi had no idea that the Emperor came to save Anakin. He also hid Luke and Leia to keep them from the Emperor, not Vader. So it’s completely plausible that Kenobi didn’t know Anakin was Vader. Now Anakin became Darth Vader before he was disfigured, but I don’t think Obi-Wan knew he was Darth Vader. I don’t have a problem with what the writer said. It’s consistent with Obi-Wan not knowing that Anakin survived.

That's simply incorrect. Anakin was also not "made into Vader" - he already was Vader and Obi-Wan knew he had become a Sith and had been that given that Sith name prior to their confrontation at Mustafar.

No it became a Sith, but he was not half robot or going by Vader when left for dead…

He had never referred to himself or had anyone else referred to him as Vader last Obiwan saw Anakin

Correct. Obi Wan is much younger in this series than the events of SW, and takes place only what - 8 years after Mustafar. How old is Lea? 8 of 9? I read a short interview of one of the directors and she made it clear that Vader was “still becoming Vader.” The scene where Obi Wan first SEES Vader as Vader is played perfectly by Ewan McGregor, IMHO. He genuinely looks shocked and scared shitless.

Modern woke writers can’t be bothered with such mundane details. What actually occurred between characters? Pshaw! Who cares? Tension? Timing? Ridiculous patriarchal concepts. Logical consistency? Rubbish! Just horn a pervert or two into the story and make an older respected character into a bisexual. Yeah! That’s the ticket!! Who cares if Anakin was Luke’s mother?

I’m cool with it as long as they cast Obi Wan as a black lesbian wiccan with turrets.

After Revenge of the Sith, it is assumed that Kenobi leaves Anakin to die. Kenobi had no idea that the Emperor came to save Anakin.

Perhaps that's a plausible argument, but as soon as he would have heard the name "Vader", he would have instantly known he was indeed alive - and later dialog indicates he knew he had survived even before that.

He also hid Luke and Leia to keep them from the Emperor, not Vader.

"To protect you from the Emperor, you were hidden from your father..."

So it’s completely plausible that Kenobi didn’t know Anakin was Vader. Now Anakin became Darth Vader before he was disfigured, but I don’t think Obi-Wan knew he was Darth Vader.

There is absolutely no question he did.

“had to confirm with Pablo [Hidalgo]”

Not the point of the article, but Pablo is always one degree of separation with SW related disasters.

Anakin becomes Darth Vader

Obi-Wan learns the truth of Anakin becoming Darth Vader (referred to by that name *twice* - by the Emperor he personally sees on the security footage and in follow-up conversation with Yoda that Skywalker is gone and has been "consumed by Darth Vader."

Good catch. I forgot that Yoda told Kenobi that Anakin had become Darth Vader in ROTS.

Exactly.

He went into DEEP hiding, keeping an eye on the boy as directed by Yoda.

If all he did was cut up giant sand fish out in the desert and go to Mos Eisly to get the occasional supplies, how would he know?

I like the story so far with Obi Wan. Do not like Reva at all, terrible actress and storyline. The Princess Leia rescue comes very close to breaking canon... I just rewatched A New Hope and Leia doesn’t really react to Vader “killing” Obi Wan. She just puts a blanket on Luke’s shoulderes and says “There’s nothing you could have done...” Not a thing about knowing Kenobi as her previous rescuer and companion.

Mark Hamil made a tweet about prince louis but called him Prince George. Of course, he was inundated with posts telling him who it was. And then various comments pertaining to Star Wars.

One of them said if Darth Vader says he is Prince George then he IS Prince George.
