Oh sure, you may think that when you have a cool $7 million in the bank, life is all wine and roses. But that's wrong. Rich people do have problems, and the latest high drama out of Laguna Beach (average household income around $216,000) proves it:
Bond King Bill Gross has finally won the turf war against his neighbor over a million dollar art installation at the billionaire's California beachfront home.
After a lengthy legal battle, the former PIMCO CEO and his wife, Amy Gross, have won approval from Laguna Beach lawmakers to keep their $1 million, 10-foot-tall cobalt glass sculpture installed in his backyard.
"Amy and I are relieved we can finally enjoy our art in peace and in full compliance with the City of Laguna Beach," Gross said in a statement to The Post.
Oh yeah sure, Mr. Gross, you'll enjoy the heck out of this thing for many years:
What is that, exactly? It looks like a particularly chaotic rendition of a song in Apple Music Visualizer, like the final spike of the legendary choral crescendo in Bohemian Rhapsody:
I mean...
That looks less like art and more like some awful torture device. Seriously, I don't blame the man for wanting it out of his line of sight. I'd get stress headaches having to look at that over my morning coffee every day.
Still, though...things got pretty weird during the fight.
The Grosses filed a complaint that Towfiq was a "peeping Tom" and that he had cameras directed at them — a situation that made them feel like they were "in prison."
Towfiq filed his own complaint alleging the couple were "bullies" and that they blared loud music — namely the Gilligan's Island theme song on repeat. ...
Both parties filed restraining orders against each other.
I gotta say, after seeing how rich people settle their beefs, I'm over here in my solidly-middle-class, perfectly pleasant neighborhood like:
My two word response: Pellet gun.
My one word response: Meh.
My no word response:
LOL
A three hour tour. a three hour tour…..
Haha
The plaintiff has enough problems having to spell his last name to everyone he meets.
Time to fill the landscape with plastic pink flamingos to really class up the neighborhood.
Tell the art owner, and the press, that that is a beautiful sculpture.
You recognize the phallic representations.
You realize that they echo the open minds of the owners.
Get some porn stars to model with them in the background and publish the pics.
Go viral.
Put up an American flag and his head would have exploded.
I sort of like the sculpture.
I don’t care for the shadow-casting, six-foot tall, 210-foot long fence that is a few inches from my property line. This fence has killed off a lot of grass and provides a great roof for millions of ants.
A person with money and bad taste can do a lot of wrong things.
Jesus, really? I wish I had energy enough to worry about stupid crap like that.
$1,000,000 for that? I don’t personally find it hideous but it is a constant reminder that you live next to an idiot.
It’s actually not that bad a sculpture.
Also, welcome to America where people are free to have their own choices in art.
Pellet gun?
The thing may well be butt-ugly, but that doesn’t justify destroying other peoples’ private property.
I’d be amazed if anyone didn’t recognize Bill Gross. I think the sculpture is ok.
Proclaim the sculpture as worth ten million on the black market. Some south of the border invaders will take care of the removal.
If only we all could live in a world with meaningless problems.
First time I have ever heard anyone complain about a privacy fence along their property line, at least if it is in good condition.
This is what one would describe as a “first-world problem”.
It looks like a Chihuly glass sculpture. I will say I love Chihuly glass sculptures! Crystal Bridges Museum has several pieces and I think it’s beautiful.
Neighbor should make a giant mural of Dogs Playing Poker.
Nice sculpture that has an aquarium-esque feel to it that is appropriate for beachfront property.
