A Californian is going viral after sharing the biggest culture shocks she faced after moving to Iowa.
The clip comes courtesy of Katie Bishop (@katphishhbishh), a podcaster and CRNA student now living in Iowa. Her video, about the most surprising differences between her old state and new one, now has over 800,000 views.
It’s the latest entry in a long line of posts about culture shocks TikTokers have faced after moving.

Connecticut, if you took out Bridgeport, New Haven and Hartford, it would be a red state.
I’m from Long Island, went to SUNY Binghamton. Summers in Catskills. NY state is gorgeous.
The divide is between urban and rural, not between states.
We thought so too.
I do miss that part of it. However, we are happy here in the live free or die state. No sales or income taxes either.
That is very true.
Too many FReepers broad brush an entire state when it’s the cities that are the problem.
I think I remember hearing about that year (1969 ) - I think I remember some places in Canada recording a 100 below temperature- not sure if that was absolute or with a windchill. I remember watching a NFL playoff between Los Angeles and Minnesota and at that time, Minnesota played outdoors. It was so cold the stands were near empty.

CA, NY, and IL should have an electoral college to mitigate the lopsided leftward tilt due to their respective metropoli.
Classic from South Dakota: What do you get if you fail your driving test? Iowa license plates.
She should move to Des Moines if she wants the mindless leftism she’s used to.
Every state has its @nus. Iowa’s is Des Moines.
I love it when California invaders “discover” north Idaho winters.
😂🤣😂
**It’s that like here in Illinois. Illinois is a pretty rural state, and everyone in the state who is outside Chicago hates Chicago.**
I was raised on a Mercer county IL farm, and as an adult, until the age of 47, farmed there. Though I changed careers to drive semi, I continued to live in the same rural setting.
My truck driving from 02 to 08 often had me going to ‘the Windy’. It was always surreal to come home to the wide open spaces of south central Mercer county and turn off the engine, after a day that may have taken the big rig all the way to downtown Chicago, battling traffic in and back out. Two entirely different worlds. I thanked God many times that I didn’t live there.
Trump is back in office, an aide comes running into the room. Out of breathe. Stammering, near incoherent. “Mr President, Mr President! Bad news! Really bad news! They launched missiles! Missiles at New York, Chicago, Seattle, San Francisco, Las Angeles, Boston, Minneapolis. Even Portland!”
“Oh no! That’s terrible. But what’s the bad news?”
“They missed.”
What I am waiting for is when California girl shoplifts less than $900 from an Iowa convenience store. Boy is she in for a rude awakening!
30 sec search.
Wow! What an experience. I’ve been in situations like that in Colorado and Wyoming but certainly not as harsh. Glad you made it.
Ralph and Alf.
Q. Why does Iowa State have astroturf on their football field?
A. To keep the cheerleaders from grazing during games.
Q. What’s the only good thing to come out of Iowa?
A. I-35.
Minnesota picking on Iowa there.
