I’m from Long Island, went to SUNY Binghamton. Summers in Catskills. NY state is gorgeous.
The divide is between urban and rural, not between states.

I think I remember hearing about that year (1969 ) - I think I remember some places in Canada recording a 100 below temperature- not sure if that was absolute or with a windchill. I remember watching a NFL playoff between Los Angeles and Minnesota and at that time, Minnesota played outdoors. It was so cold the stands were near empty.

I was raised on a Mercer county IL farm, and as an adult, until the age of 47, farmed there. Though I changed careers to drive semi, I continued to live in the same rural setting.
My truck driving from 02 to 08 often had me going to ‘the Windy’. It was always surreal to come home to the wide open spaces of south central Mercer county and turn off the engine, after a day that may have taken the big rig all the way to downtown Chicago, battling traffic in and back out. Two entirely different worlds. I thanked God many times that I didn’t live there.
Trump is back in office, an aide comes running into the room. Out of breathe. Stammering, near incoherent. “Mr President, Mr President! Bad news! Really bad news! They launched missiles! Missiles at New York, Chicago, Seattle, San Francisco, Las Angeles, Boston, Minneapolis. Even Portland!”
“Oh no! That’s terrible. But what’s the bad news?”

What I am waiting for is when California girl shoplifts less than $900 from an Iowa convenience store. Boy is she in for a rude awakening!
