Joanna Jones, 39, was flying to London from Antigua when her 14-year-old daughter Poppy needed oxygen and two EpiPen shots during the nightmare eight-hour flight after suffering a severe reaction to the nuts.
As Poppy's condition worsened, a quick-thinking nurse on board dashed to help - while the captain considered making an emergency landing.
Eventually the pilot landed the plane safely at Gatwick and Poppy was rushed to hospital.
Speaking exclusively to MailOnline, Joanna said: ’It was a nightmare for all of us and I really thought she might die.

We may eventually learn the cause, but as of yet we can only speculate. The two things I mention do have proof demonstrating they affect people in other detrimental ways.
He had a great personal philosophy.
There were always rumors that he had been castrated by the slave-owner who had him; I don’t know that this was ever proved, and I don’t think he ever spoke of it.
But if it was true, he seems to have channeled his creativity in very useful and beautiful ways and carried a great love for life and creation.
Didn’t you once get a STD from a stewardess? Shouldn’t there have been a warning on your ticket?
Agreed, great post.
I would imagine the mom would have dealt with that at the time of the ticket purchase. I certainly would have before making that kind of expensive purchase.
The airline may have told her they would accommodate here, and they tried. They asked the guy twice to stop eating the peanuts. It would not have killed him to do so. It nearly killed the girl for him to not stop.
That goes way beyond simple accommodation like the stupid mask wearing which does no good.
Not from what I have read so far. If *I* was presented with the situation of *MY* kid potentially dying because of the possibility of encountering someone with peanut contaminants on them, I would either refuse to get on the plane, or I would have the child in a bubble suit.
At the very least an N-95 respirator. If you can't breath it in, it can't hurt you.
I guess different people have different ideas about what constitutes acting responsibly when it comes to the life of their child.
Telling people not to do something doesn't fit my definition. Taking active precautions to prevent a problem no matter what anyone else does, does.
This attitude is another reason I don’t fly.
I am not responsible for everybody else’s health issues. FULL STOP!
I am NOT changing my diet for anyone.
:)
I think the last two years of all the covid demands have lessened people’s willingness to surrender anything, even a bag of peanuts.
At the same time, there are more than enough Big Brother types trying to dictate what people can or can’t do. And almost seem to enjoy their newfound power.
There is no easy way to fix this. Our institutions have mostly failed, and distrust is at the highest I’ve seen in a long time.
You can see the polarization on this topic.
Bears repeating!
to be honest i am not for putting other people out because i have an illness/allergy/whatever.
That’s for me to figure out. The whole world does not revolve around me.
alot of folks on this forum seem outraged that this young girl had a terrible reaction, but what action did she and her mom take to make sure she’d be ok?
No one knows if she was prepared or they just announced “allergies- you better deal with it”
If it’s my kid- i do research and make sure she’s gonna be safe.
Ugh. Peanut eating guy should have stopped eating but you cannot make other people ,especially strangers, care about you and your problems. You look out for you.
If they had that severe an allergy, they shouldn’t fly.
Expecting the world to rotate around you is NOT how we are supposed to live.
How about you wear a mask and not interfere with the rest of us?
See how that slippery slope gets started!
i agree with you somewhat but does Poppy ever go to a mall food court?
asian food is rife with peanuts/peanut oil. Or do they not cook when Poppy’s hanging out?
It’s not a rights issue for me it’s a the world is a big place and does not revolve around you.
Her momm should have been better prepared and made sure that the airlines were aware that Poppy had this issue in advance.
as for the peanut eating man- some people don’t care, and you cannot make them care about other people. That’s life.
if we put every person that acted like a jerk in jail......
Yes because his rights are far less important than YOUR rights!
No wonder we had to endure 2 years of mask mandates!
Good analogies.
Decades ago I would roll my eyes when the hard core libertarians would nuts over something small and yell “No, SLIPPERY SLOPE!”. I don’t do that that any more. They were right.
you rushed to judgment without hearing his unedited side of the story...
maybe he hadn’t eaten for a while and was hungry...
there are other medical conditions besides peanut allergies...
maybe this individual needed to eat to address theirs...
But he didn’t stop (and he could have eaten something else).
Agreed.
