View comments A mother has told of her mid-air terror after her teenage daughter blacked out and suffered an allergic reaction at 30,000 feet on a British Airways when a passenger opened a packet of peanuts on board.
Joanna Jones, 39, was flying to London from Antigua when her 14-year-old daughter Poppy needed oxygen and two EpiPen shots during the nightmare eight-hour flight after suffering a severe reaction to the nuts.
As Poppy's condition worsened, a quick-thinking nurse on board dashed to help - while the captain considered making an emergency landing.
Eventually the pilot landed the plane safely at Gatwick and Poppy was rushed to hospital.
Speaking exclusively to MailOnline, Joanna said: βIt was a nightmare for all of us and I really thought she might die.

My theory is that it comes from parents not wanting to expose their kids to germs and trying to make their environments as sterile as possible. As a result, their immune systems never fully develop.
No, it doesn’t. And your idiocy hurts those with real medical conditions by labeling them as malingerers at best; crazy at worst. After you graduate from medical school, then your “insight” might be worth listening to.
Probably. I think they can also do whatever they regard as appropriate at the time. Had I been the flight attendant, I would have told the man. "Hand me the bag, or I will have the air marshal arrest you."
This is part of it.
Well, again, I would need to know more than the story tells to know if the crew acted appropriately or not.
Busy thread!
The Freepers love to wrangle.
sometimes you feel like a nut sometimes you don’t...
while you people are preoccupied arguing over nonsense our country is being destroyed by communists...
I’d bet $1000 it wasn’t the guy 10 rows up but all the peanut “floatsum” swirling around the girls seat area from the previous 10 flights.
I’m dubious that someone eating peanuts 12 feet away can cause an allergic reaction. The quantity of “peanuts” that become airborne and are inhaled by someone 12 feet away when you eat them is likely zero or measured in millionths of a gram.
I don’t see how you could prove and collect.
Why yes I have, but I will wager you that Carter is responsible for more death and destruction world wide than was LBJ.
ββββββββββββββββββββββββββ
Give me one example of how Carter was even remotely involved in any significant numbers of deaths in this world and try to justify and compare that against LBJβs war which led to 50,000+ Americans dead.
Except peanut allergies and airplane flights have long been an issue versus other medical issues. Many airlines no longer serve peanuts for that reason. Easy solution for the most part. At one point, some didn’t allow passengers to bring peanuts or peanut butter and jelly sandwiches because peanut allergies are potentially deadly. Not many other things are. There are liability issues as well if one has reasonable expectation that peanuts will not be served/allowed. As an engineer you know ADA regulations must be followed in your work. As a medical doctor....oh, wait, you are not a medical doctor. Never mind.
“Inhalation. An allergic reaction may occur if you inhale dust or aerosols containing peanuts, from a source such as peanut flour or peanut oil cooking spray.”
That’s quite different from the miniscule amount of “dust” released by eating a 2 ounce bag of peanuts 10 rows away.
“12 feet away “
Ten rows is probably more like 35 or 40.
It should be the responsibility of the afflicted person to bring with him on flights and such the proper antidotes (such as EpiPens) to keep himself safe. He should NOT be able disrupt the normal activities of the rest of the passengers. Who does he think he is??!? He has an abnormal condition? Then he should deal with it — not lay the responsibility on others who also payed good money for those plane tickets.
“Give me one example of how Carter was even remotely involved in any significant numbers of deaths in this world”
He gave us the terrorist state of Iran. 40 years of murder.
Allowing the ayatollahs to take over would be part of a death count or two.
You are clueless. Yes. Medically it can happen. That’s the way allergies can manifest themselves.
Honestly, 300+ posts about a 14 year old girl who is reported to have almost died from anaphylaxis and a bunch of clowns on FR who seem to have nothing better to do than feel superior to the poor kid by calling her a liar. Adios. This is about as low as it gets. There are nicer people in the world than FR.
“If I were on that plane I would have smacked the shit out of that teenager.”
I would have defended the teenager, and lots of others. People with “peanut allergies” are crazy, and so are those who “smack” people .
