Help, please. I can't get into my Yahoo account due to an incorrect password. Verification code email from them isn't arriving in my regular email account.

I’ve love to change the password but can’t get into the account to do that. I’d like to close it down but can’t get into it to do that, either.
It doesn’t seem safe to just abandon it willy nilly if they can link it down the line to a site that’s important. I don’t use it for email but to use it to sign in to other sites. That’s the big concern.

After you put in your email address there is a technical support number you can call on the next page.

Probably goes without saying that this was dumb. IF i were you I'd go to every website where I have an account and change your passwords.
Yes, did that and they are empty.

I have used Hotmail for 25 years. Never had a problem.
Unless you have an easily guessed password, how do you get hacked?
If you type in the wrong password three times, then you have to answer a couple of your secret questions before they let you type in the real password.
If you use a public computer, then you might be more at more at risk, but you still have to answer your secret questions before Hotmail allows you to change your password.

How do you get anywhere in 2022 without giving strangers your email, date of birth, social security number, home address, phone number, mother’s maiden name, where you went to school, your favorite ice cream flavor, your dog’s name, place of employment, etc.? I figured a yahoo email with fictitious creds would be a bit safer than handing over my social security number.

My sister went thru this. She had forgot the password. She tried another web browser she had used in the past and it had stored the password and she got back in.
I do not know if she has been able to reset the password as you have to know the current password.
Not time write down your accounts. It will not help if hacked but as least you have access to your accounts instead of depending on your memory.

log in to the account through a browser not an app to get the verification code

Tried it on Chrome and still nothing.
Yes, the provider uses Chrome.
Good news is an email from our internet service provider was in the inbox saying it’s time to pay the bill, smh.
Yes, tried logging into both yahoo and the isp email on other browsers and nothing.
I looked at the various Yahoo “paid subscription” signups. Some have a free 14-30 day trial. Then the cost is usually around $5/month. The service you may need might not have a trial period.
Still, if there’s no long-term hold on you...sign up, get help, get your acct fixed...and drop the service.
Try a different computer first. Eliminate an issue with your computer.
It may be a problem with your internet provider.
