EXCLUSIVE: Homeless at the gates of Disney: Thousands are living in motels, encampments and even their cars - in the shadow of the 'Most Magical Place on Earth' amid soaring rent prices and post-pandemic unemployment Thousands of homeless people are estimated to be living in the shadow of Disney World near Kissimmee, Florida after falling on hard times during the pandemic

Among them are locals as well as newcomers that moved to the Sunshine State believing their lives would improve in an area dominated by Disney's wealth, only to find rocketing rent prices beyond their reach

Many have moved into one of the run-down motels lining the busy US Route 192 that runs past the direction of the theme park, while others are living in encampments in the woods or even in their cars Forklift truck operator Demarco Jones, 40, moved into a room at the Paradise Inn with his five young children and girlfriend after being forced into debt and losing his Winter Park apartment when his work hours were cut

Steve Rumph, 50, told DailyMail.com he had also lived in the motel before deciding to move into his beat-up 2006 Lincoln Towncar - which he finds more comfortable - stationed at the parking lot of a Wawa Rumph lives off disability benefits but said he has also resorted to a drastic way to make ends meet: 'I'm starting to sell my plasma. I get $800 a month for four donations. I hope I can keep going with that' Barbie Austria, who runs the Kissimmee Poinciana Homeless Outreach, estimates 'thousands' live in temporary motel accommodation, on the streets and in encampments within a few miles of Disney's gates

Maybe the homeless can all go to Ukraine and get some of that $40,000,000,000 of American money that Biden sent over there.

Sunbelt Blues: The Failure of American Housing Hardcover – October 26, 2021

An eye-opening investigation of America’s rural and suburban housing crisis, told through a searing portrait of precarious living in Disney World’s backyard.

Today, a minimum-wage earner can afford a one-bedroom apartment in only 145 out of 3,143 counties in America. One of the very worst places in the United States to look for affordable housing is Osceola County, Florida.

Once the main approach to Disney World, where vacationers found lodging on their way to the Magic Kingdom, the fifteen-mile Route 192 corridor in Osceola has become a site of shocking contrasts. At one end, global investors snatch up foreclosed properties and park their capital in extravagant vacation homes for affluent visitors, eliminating the county’s affordable housing in the process. At the other, underpaid tourist industry workers, displaced families, and disabled and elderly people subsisting on government checks cram themselves into dilapidated, roach-infested motels, or move into tent camps in the woods.

Blackrock and others are buying up houses snd turning them into rentals..and buying rentals...most single workers cannot afford a rental....

Know of four former college students living in a two bedroom rental..put in bunk beds

Imagine the level of begging, panhandling and harassment that goes on at that entrance. Before the customers have even parked their cars, there are greasy fists rapping on the driver side windows asking for money.

Also really enjoyed the fatties on scooters blocking everybody’s path. Lots of fun.

Last time I was at Dizzyland was in 1980. Lot's of "Widells" even back then. Plus they all seemed to be pushing strollers as well.

Post pandemic unemployment? Come to downeast Maine if you are drug free and can work without being drunk.

You will have five or six entry-level job offers within 30 minutes of your arrival. KFC is paying $16.50 an hour.
McDonalds is paying about the same and has benefits including paying part of your college tuition. Join the Army National Guard in Maine and the Guard and you will receive a free college education.

there are PLENTY of jobs.
Both well-paid technical jobs, trades jobs galore, and yes, lower-paid retail type jobs.
Not every person will always get his/her best match, but everyone does still have the freedom to look for it.
So, why all the “homelessness?”

Drug addiction, boozers, mental health problems, and yes, just plain lazy people who just don’t want to be bothered working..

There are numerous help programs for the first catagories...sometimes they work, sometimes they do not.. I think it depends largely on the motivation of the patient?
But at least there are lots of programs

The lazy bums? Cut off all their welfare type payments (including the recent covid direct deposits)... toss them off the dole... get them off the backs of the working people

I’d give them two or three months bonus time (with all the welfare money and free groceries and free transport vouchers and all the rest).. why? just to give them time to look for the best job they can get, that fits them the best... I’m okay on this

after two or three months, cut them off the dole....
period.
end of file.
they’ll be working... either as computer coders or office techs or, yes, burger flippers.. but they’ll be working.

result: they’ll get their dignity back to0

Perfect. Disney is heavily into grooming ... what better population to practice on?
