Modern political scandals, like Caesar’s Gaul, are divided into three parts. The first is the actual malfeasance. That might be taking bribes, lying to federal agents, leaking classified materials, sexual misconduct, selling political access, whatever. The second part is the hyper-partisan involvement of Congress and, often, federal agencies, all eager to score points for their side. The third part is the media’s role, which goes beyond bias to include active promotion of political goals.
Federal agencies, like all bureaucratic institutions, have always tried to increase their power and preserve their autonomy. What’s different today is that the bureaucrats, and often their entire agencies, are frequently partisan players. That’s disheartening but understandable. One party is clearly the “party of government” and the party of experts. Most educated professionals, including bureaucrats and journalists, identify with that party. Filled with partisan “civil servants,” these agencies routinely tilt investigations (or kill them outright) to advance political goals – the same ones as their favored party. For the same reasons, they leak insider information to friendly media. Predictably, the opposing party tries to score points by attacking them for doing so.
That brings us to the third element of these scandals: the “friendly media.” Mainstream outlets are not just biased. They often become outright partisans when a potential scandal could hurt conservatives or populists. That bias degrades what was once called “hard news.” Today, neutral reporting is as antiquated as rotary phones, conservative Democrats, and liberal Republicans.
The media’s bias, both left and right, is amplified by the fragmentation of the digital landscape. That fragmentation encourages each outlet to appeal to its self-selected audience and avoid alienating them with uncomfortable information.
The trial of Hillary Clinton lawyer Michael Sussmann illustrates how modern scandals have devolved into this dismal three-ring circus.

I predict that none of this will touch Hillary and the leftist media will not feel the least bit embarrassed that they were parroting lies for her.
And how correct you will be.
How can one feel shame at what is clearly a righteous and just act, stopping the Trump administration?
In fact, becoming more leftist than your fellow man is now the most holy goal in their modern crusade.
All true.
I admit-I have not seen that term “Scandal-Industrial Process”.
That is it. Right there.
The Liberal agenda (and tactics) to smear and remove their opposition IS an industry.
It’s lucrative ... and practitioners are totally exempt from scrutiny or prosecution.
Establishing authenticity for self defense. No one wants to be caught up in the cultural revolution and be forced to wear a dunce hat and stand in front of howling mobs of radicals demanding that you confess your counterrevolutionary sins. It's coming, America!
Correct, unfortunately.
Trump has deep enough pockets to sue the Clintons into poverty. Watch.
I know when Commey was investigating Hitlery for her email mishandling that she would never suffer consequences. She still won’t until she meets her maker and does backstrokes in the lake of fire.
.
He’ll do the same to Obama.
He left out the fourth part, Assistant Democrats.
I predict that none of this will touch Hillary and the leftist media will not feel the least bit embarrassed that they were parroting lies for her. That was 2016.
Everyone here pretends to not see the elephant in the 2020 room because they're fooled by not parroting lies but by the dead silence since Nov.2020.
Fox News has been dead silent, including internal censorship, on any and all 2020 election news from Nov.2020 to this day.
Fox News is clearly up to their eyeballs in the 2020 steal to overthrow the election to oust Trump.
They betrayed a sitting President and an entire nation, they know it and so do you.
Everyone knows what the "leftist media" is because they're up front with it.
Fox News on the other hand is pretending to be one thing while selectively stabbing you in the back to suit their never-Trump agenda.
No one at Fox News is affected by high gas prices, inflation, food/baby formula shortages, an open border Biden Presidencey. They couldn't care less about you. They'll keep feeding you tidbits about Biden because that's what you want. But, in the end, they're all Biden all the way.
They're getting away with it in 2020, they'll do it for Biden/Harris, or any Democrat again.
I think that for them she is increasingly damaged and irrelevant and ready to take her place in the "trash bin of history." I think that they have already cut her loose because it was stated under oath in open court that she approved the Alpha Bank smear without knowing whether true or not.
Durham may charge at some point but I do not think it would happen in D.C.
(The S.C. is not the FEC which just deals with campaign spending. The S.C. looks at violation of the law. I think that the Sussman trial is not an FBI cover up as some have stated; Durham is linking illegal actions back to the 7th floor of the FBI .)
FEC fines HRC Campaign and DNC over russia dossier research
In the letter announcing the fines, the FEC also revealed that it dismissed related complaints against Steele, Perkins Coie and Fusion GPS, which have all previously denied wrongdoing.
The Clinton campaign and the DNC never conceded that they violated campaign finance laws, but they agreed to drop their pushback and accept the civil fines, according to the FEC letter.
A DNC spokesman told CNN Wednesday that it has “settled aging and silly” FEC complaints about 2016.
A lawyer who represented the Clinton campaign in the FEC case didn’t answer CNN’s request for comment. Both entities previously said that they didn’t know the details of Steele’s work in real-time. They’ve also said the Trump campaign’s links to Russia posed a national security risk — which was the same conclusion reached by a bipartisan Senate probe in 2020.
It's not very accurate. It has little to do with industry, but it has a lot to do with government.
Of course the term is a derivative of Eisenhower's military-industrial complex, so everyone tacks on industrial whenever there is some colusion between large organizations.
I wish they wouldn't unless industry is actually involved.
In this case we should call this a Democrat-government complex.
I looked at it differently when I read it.
To me, they have industrialized the process of introducing scandal. Almost as if they project-planned it.
What is the project? To surveil the Trump campaign “legally”.
What are the tasks? Look for real national security scandal. Manufacture false national security scandal. Obtain a “valid” or “legitimate” source for the scandal. Get the real/false scandal into the hands of the FBI. Collaborate with the media. And so on.
Ok, I see. It was certainly project planned. But I see it more as a well crafted artisan production, something like a dramatic play and not factory mass produced.
When Sussman gets a hung jury, the press will call it “Hillary exonerated” and “Durham should stop advancing consiracy theories.”
Heh, I see your point as well.
“Crafted artisan production”! Yeah, that fits too. They certainly prefer to be seen as the “artsy” type...
