WASHINGTON - The attorney who sparked an FBI investigation into since-debunked claims of a secret back channel between Donald Trump and a Russian bank billed Hillary Clinton’s campaign on the day he met with an FBI official.
Attorney Michael Sussman’s expense reports were admitted into evidence in court Tuesday before the prosecution rested its case against the lawyer, who’s on trial for lying to the FBI during the meeting.
Sussman had turned over “white papers” and other data on rumors of the since debunked tie between the Trump Organization and Alfa Bank in 2016 while not revealing he was working on behalf of a client.
The new evidence shows he was on the clock for Clinton that day — though the defense countered that the embattled attorney expensed taxis to and from the meeting to the law firm and not to Clinton or any other client.
It’s unclear from the records if the hours charged to the Clinton campaign were charged for the meeting.
The new exhibits show Sussmann charged the Clinton camp 3.3 hours “for work and communications regarding confidential project” on Sept. 19, 2016, the day he met with FBI counsel James Baker. Sussmann originally submitted a report for 4.5 hours, but later said he spent only 3.3 hours on the project in an email on Nov. 6, two days before the presidential election between Trump and Clinton.
Sussmann also expensed to the campaign “single use flash drives” that he bought at a Staples near the DC law offices of Perkins Coie, where Sussmann was a partner.

I was just reading the same story from another source.
Sussmann billed the purchase of flash drives to Clinton campaign days before giving them to FBI
Does anyone know what the amount billed was?
How can the defense he billed his law firm for just taxis when it’s clear it was for more time than that?
This should be the nail to convict this guy.
Durham went in with just one count. One count.
I’m holding my breath, because it’s a DC jury, but I have to believe even they will be fair and honest.
If Sussman is convicted where does this go from here? Is this a felony? What is the likely sentence. Compared to Flynn? I would think he should lose his license, be fined and maybe some jail time?
In short, they made am example with General Flynn. Throwing the book at him.
Shouldn’t they do more with this guy so this is never done again?
Trump is the only man who could have withstood the barrage he got during the early months of his presidency.
Lastly, again we should ask, how did Mueller miss this? Why didn’t he dismiss his investigation right from the beginning?
For one thing, I think it really builds on Trump’s case.
I worry that this guy will be slapped on the wrist. Lying to the FBI? It’s really only a big deal if the court wants it to be a big deal. Will the jury convict? Will the judge hand down a severe sentence? Will Durham have an Act II or is this the end of the road? I think everybody may just want this all to go away.
The FBI wasn’t duped by Clinton’s campaign. The FBI was in on it and psyched to launch a coup against President Trump. Durham is a good comedian.
While America sleeps on shootings, this trial has shed the light on what we all suspected,
Clinton was in on the lie - no freaking kidding
The FBI was in on the lie - not the field folks who were tasked with the sham investigation, but the leadership who allowed this nonsense to be peddled as a DOJ like source.
The problem is outraged citizens would suddenly be charged wtih child porn on their computers. Uncle Sam can put it there, find it and the average person simply doesn’t have the resources to fight back........so they keep their head low and say nothing.
Same with the politicians.
America is sunk.
He literally billed Hillary for the time.
So either he was there in an official capacity contrary to his claims to the FIB OR, he committed wire fraud through his false billing.
Which is it? It must be one of the two.
Mueller was all about covering up FBI malfeasance and getting Trump impeached for obstruction of justice. I am not sure if Rosenstein was in on it at the start, but he certainly caved to the pressure to appoint Mueller. We know from Stzrok's texts that there was no there around the time of the appointment.
Sussmann seems to be in a position that to deny the charge is to admit to mis-billing a client? Do I have that about right?
And the suggestion that any law firm would ‘eat’ a billable hour is ridiculous. I expect there are bank statements coming.
Getting Sussmann testifying on this is just a step towards another goal. It is not Durhams goal, just a means of getting there without revealing too much to the different player’s defense teams. He needs to keep conspiracy members divided against each other.
No sense in worrying over it. The swamp takes care of its own. Clinesmith plead guilty to the same offense (also a Durham SC case), got 12 months probation and 400 hours of community service. Keeps his law license.
Sussman won't get anything more than that, at most. More likely hung jury and Durham decides to drop it.
News will report that as exonerating the FBI and Clinton camp of any wrongdoing.
What is a “single-use flash drive”? Did a search on it and came up with nothing. Anyone?
I suspect what this means is the thumb drive was set to read only after the data was transferred to it.
