Greater Idaho movement proposed a new map. It still wants to absorb over half of Oregon

Nine counties in eastern Oregon have voted yes to join Idaho since 2020, and two more counties in northeast Oregon, Morrow and Wallowa, are also set to vote on the proposal soon. The addition of eastern Oregon to the Gem State is just the first phase of the proposal. The second phase would see Greater Idaho spread into northeast California, where the movement claims that residents identify closer to Idaho ideologies based on voter trends.

My friends do WE gain anything from this? The local conservatives would. A more representative state government. The left behind counties get bluer, meaning the country is more divided. As it gets more impossible to deal with the left it may be our only alternative. The Oregon capital could effectively object thereby keeping us diluted and keep the new Idaho from more influence. Would it start a fire in other states?

California had it’s own secession movement(Jefferson) in the 30’s. Pearl Harbor put the kibosh on it. 51 states is a non-starter even if the Democrats wish to do it with D.C. and Puerto Rico.

How would this impact California's water supply? Basically, how much of the rest of California's water comes from the northeast counties thinking of leaving for Idaho?

That alone would be enough for California to argue tooth and nail to keep those counties.

This would be great! I hope Wallowa signs up! (Went to Scout camp there in the 60's.)

It would spare me the goofy Oregon laws on drives home to Washington from Colorado.

The state boundaries in the west don’t make much sense. They are straight lines drawn by Washington politicians with little regard to local geography.

Push Oregon west, and combine what remains into a single Blue state of Washigon.

Oregon and Washington would get small enough to be one state. You know that ain’t gonna happen. Like New England has 12 senators-unfair.

My idea: Restore the Hawaiian monarchy. Give the natives back the power. They’ll demand secession and then left loses 2 senators.

Think long-term. The left does.

This is not about creating new states, but about reorganizing the current states. At this point in history we are where the US was during the time of the Missouri Compromise: we can't create a single new blue or red state, but we might be able to create two new states if one is blue and the other red.

But Greater Idaho would add zero new states. It would polarize things more, but more US citizens would be in states closer to their political and social/cultural views.

Bearing in mind the only thing the Constitution doesn’t mention/prevent is parts of 1 state breaking off and joining another.

So the Stra-Tee-ger-ry should be

1) These 9 Counties join Idaho now

2) If the Republicans get control in 2024, then they make these 9 Counties their own state (with the blessing of Idaho)

3) Other counties in California & Washington then break off a join the new state.

More like half of Oregon (residents) want to be absorbed by Idaho, though I’m sure Idaho has no problem with that. 🙂

Does Oregon have any Javelin missiles to prevent it?

Idaho should move troops in. Then use it as a pretext to invade and bomb the rest of Oregon.

Then people will be telling Oregon, make peace, just give them some land.

Oregon would lose representation in Congress, while Idaho would increase representation in Congress. 🙂

This is similar to the people of Killington, VT voted to join NH.

Most of Eastern WA state would like to separate from Seattle, Tacoma and King County.

Upstate NY would like to be separate from NYC.

We are living at a time where internet communications bring us closer together to the point where we don’t need state and local governments as much. It’s like living in a condo vs. a single family dwelling. A loss of rights and autonomy are the result. Does New England really need 6 capitols and 12 senators? Perhaps regional interests are more appropriate. How many senators would that take? Give each ‘region’ more than two.

It would call for a new convention of the states. Too much on the plate. Use it to downsize the government in the biggest way.

It will take time but it would be awesome!

It would be awesome.
