TOKYO (AP) -- President Joe Biden said Monday that the U.S. would intervene militarily if China were to invade Taiwan, saying the burden to protect Taiwan is "even stronger' after Russia's invasion of Ukraine. It was one of the most forceful presidential statements in support of self-governing in decades.

Better an animal than a traitor like you

Son, you are not qualified, nor earned the right to call anyone a traitor.

Two nuclear powers you really don’t want to get into a war with, Russia and China. Looks like Brandon will do both.

Plus they should have Taiwan-built drones, ATGMs and MANPADs cached all over the island. Every Taiwanese man over 16 should be practicing on inert training models.

Taiwan could build world-class high-tech weapons in a matter of months. If they have not, shame on them.

Yes, THIS. Whatever the final outcome in Ukraine, China will be the winner. While the West and Russia pour resources into Ukraine, countries are buying Russian oil and gas with yuan (not the almighty petrodollar) through Chinese banks, China has access to Russian resources while the rest of the world faces alarming food and energy shortages ... and that’s just the beginning.

A leading Chinese academic used a Chinese iduom to describe it:

“The mantis stalks the cicada, unaware of the oriole behind”
(figurative meaning: “to pursue a narrow gain while neglecting a greater danger”)

Then says “The bigger question that the United States is unwilling to face is, who is the mantis and who is the cicada?” China is obviously the oriole. So are we the cicada or the mantis? And which is Russia? Does it matter?

Have a look at a mantis attempting to capture a cicada:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=V3A7tqJoVGs

As you can see, both are large insects. The mantis is strong, and intelligent for an insect, with amazing reach, but the huge, noisy, primitive cicada is also very strong, well-armored and has an enormous wingspan. Both are likely to be damaged or weakened in such a fight. Meanwhile, the oriole stalks from behind.

Link to essay by Chinese academic Chen Feng (you’ll have to run it through Google translate. Long, but well worth the read — and keep in mind it was written back in March):

Yea, we should be the World’s guardian from 10,000 miles away against a nuclear power. That makes sense.

“ Plus they should have Taiwan-built drones, ATGMs and MANPADs cached all over the island..”

Turn a few thousand Taiwanese teenagers loose with those drones and the ChiComs wouldn’t get a single foot in the island.

Yes, China implements crazy commie domestic policies.

When it comes to foreign policy, they tend to take a wiser and longer view. They’ve certainly taken the long view when it comes to Taiwan.

Their Road-and-Belt Initiative is another example, as is fostering US dependence on China for essential goods while our dollars help build their economic growth. We share our technology with them (willingly and wittingly or not), while the Chinese buy up our debt and invest in ownership of our assets, etc. Meanwhile, they have slowly but surely infiltrated our institutions.

The Chinese foreign policy establishment sometimes cleverly finds ways to turn their domestic policy blunders into foreign policy assets. The One Child Policy has left them with surplus young males, for example, ideal for beefing up their military and sending off on colonizing adventures in Central Asia, Siberia, Africa, and elsewhere. Rather than a handicap, the skewed male-to-female ratio among young adults can be seen as a window of opportunity for military and colonial expansion.

They mainly prefer “soft” colonialism over military conquest. Better cost-to-benefit ratio, especially the way they do it. (It may not work out as well for them in Africa, though, because Africa Always Wins — we’ll see.)

That’s a relief, and I was fairly certain they would. But this Big Bad Biden Blunder (or “gaffe”) followed by White House Walkback is beginning to play on a loop. Talk about your mixed signals during a period of international high tension and sabre rattling. Not to mention it highlights Biden’s cognitive, er, difficulties.

White House Walkback may become a new catch phrase like “circle back”.

We didn't give Japan advanced military technology; we didn't fund, with American jobs lost, Japan's military build-up. Corrupt corporatists didn't give away technical IP to Japan.

Your analogy sucks.

No its not a perfect analogy.

So let me get this straight...if China invades Taiwan, we should butt out and maybe even support China because we had people/corporations in the states who helped them build their military....explain the reasoning...

Jesus, really? You said if China invades Taiwan, some people here would blame the US.

You're right; I'm one of them.

China wouldn't be in the position to threaten Taiwan, much less the US, if it weren't for corrupt and greedy US politicians and corporatists.
