Krakauer is a very good writer and his leftism can be seen throughout this writing. He made too many good points we cannot ignore. It has to do with putting ones life in the hands of incompetents who cover up their mistakes after the damage is done. Jessica Lynch was not mistreated in the Iraqi hospital. Tillman's squad was ordered to split into 2 groups after pleading with higher-ups not to do so. All procedures and protocols were broken to help cover up the circumstances of him being shot from 30 feet away. His uniform was burned and his body returned to Dover AFB with no clothes on-autopsy evidence destroyed.
The guy who allegedly shot Tillman was an 18-year old 140-pound 'slacker'. A slacker in the Army's Rangers? Krakauer suggested murder. The 'slacker's efforts suggest those in the WH were cut from the same cloth. He had it out for Bus, Condi, and Rumsfeld. Heroes were that 911 commission fella Clark and all those that seriously warned them something serious was going on. No mention of Clinton being offered Bin Laden in Sudan.
My only analogy could be Sonny Corleone(James Caan) getting killed in “The Godfather”. His hot temper led him to the bridge toll booth where they were waiting for him.
His mom said the family was lied to by Gen. McChrystal about their son’s death. Disgusting.
Krakauer is a dirtbag. His book on Chris Mcandless was horrible. Not defending Mr. Mcandless, who made a very unwise choice.
It is disgusting that such flippant language is used in discussing a patriot who left a big money job to serve amid known extreme risks.
McChrystal was/is a POS.
Yeah. I don’t care what they say about Tillman. How many Hollywood punks and overpaid athletes do what he did? Next to zero. Shameful rhetoric. But they have no shame.
Pat Tillman was a good dude.
Krakauer is a dickhead of the highest order.
Tillman left a wife behind. If he didn’t go to Afghanistan and he probably would have done something else that’s crazy-death wish? Most of us do not take those chances. It’s guys like him that give leftists the freedom to to be the cowardly critics they are. Other interests used him as a poster boy as well as a martyr. I would never volunteer to be the first at anything. Life is a marathon. It’s a sprint to others. Krakauer points out that it was Iran that benefitted from our Iraq invasion. Bin Laden’s motive was to get us involved in the Middle East so that the jihad war could expand world-wide. He succeeded. The idea is to stop and think for a minute. Tillman reacted.
Under the theory of the headline, every volunteer who dies in military service “got himself killed.” Attention-grabbing but disrespectful. Tillman volunteered and is a hero regardless of the merits of the war, mistakes made within the military or the coverup. This all smells like publishers trying to stir up controversy in order to pump up sales.
It appears Pat Tillman was a leftist, who loved this country. I can not stress enough how impressed I was with him joining up after September 11th. He puts many Americans to shame for what he gave up monetarily. He was a hero and a patriot.
*Krakauer-dirtbag. His book on Chris Mcandless was horrible. Not defending Mr. Mcandless, who made a very unwise choice.*
‘Into the Wild” was a bestseller. McCandless was headstrong. Could be similar to Tillman.
*It is disgusting that such flippant language is used in discussing a patriot who left a big money job to serve amid known extreme risks.* He didn’t learn from his first deployment. He would have been on the lookout for other risky endeavors.
Tillman was more into the adventure of military life. Football would have been a temporary stopover for his next endeavor. Afghanistan was presented to him on a silver platter. The rest of us enlisted for other reasons such as the benefits, a first job etc. We’re lucky to have men like him in this country. It’s more important to have leadership who will ‘stand beside her and guide her’. Trump was one. Objected to the war didn’t he?
There is a condition called mountain sickness. You get cerebral edema and it can kill you. Mountain sickness interferes with your though process. The Taliban avoided it by staying in the mountains. Mountain sickness is what got Tillman killed. The rest is bull manure.
*It appears Pat Tillman was a leftist, who loved this country.*
Same with Henry Fonda. There are others. It means there are interests out there we can come together on.
Cognitive function and mountain sickness. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK232882/
Political ‘not so friendly’ fire?
He sure romanticized the decisions of a mentally unstable kid in that book didn’t he?
Disrespectful and disgraceful title. Pat Tillman placed his life on the line when he volunteered to serve in combat. That means, that whatever his political beliefs, he was a patriot of the highest order.
He was killed by negligence/crappy training/substandard leadership and his memory is further soiled by the army's cover-up afterward.
This writer is garbage - as are all second-guessers out there who make money off trying to damage the reputation of far better people than they are.
*Mountain sickness is what got Tillman killed. The rest is bull manure.*
That makes the pentagon complicit. Every potential battleground of this earth should be researched by military attache’s in our embassies as well as our satellites. Think all the frostbite casualties in WW2. Greneda 1983-The landing troops had to depend on tourist maps to get around. Then there’s the officer on land who couldn’t communicate with the ship so he had to call the Pentagon from a pay phone using his phone card to do a 3-way. Stupid.
Carcraft is on to something. The government does not do it’s job. The Pentagon is no exception. It cost Tillman and many others. I did my time and got the hell out-still alive. Who’s smarter, me or Tillman?
