As for Tillman he always lived life on the edge. He would high dive off cliffs and barely avoided the rocks just below. Volunteered to be in the very front lines and subject his life to the efforts of his support. His reaction to the 911 attacks was noble and his fatal mission was on his 2nd tour. He and his Ranger brother were against the Iraq invasion, listened to PBS, and wanted to meet up with Noam Chomsky and talk between the 2 deployments-closet leftist? He could have declined his 2nd tour. His disillusionment on the first one should have made the decision for him. Me, I'll always be thankful it was Bush in charge at the time rather than Gore or one of the Clintons. It was war after all. The detail coverup of his death bought time to soften the blow as well as the embarrassment. It's something that goes on throughout government-sound familiar? In this case it was our guys who pulled the strings whose only interests were their own.

My only analogy could be Sonny Corleone(James Caan) getting killed in “The Godfather”. His hot temper led him to the bridge toll booth where they were waiting for him.

His mom said the family was lied to by Gen. McChrystal about their son’s death. Disgusting.

Krakauer is a dirtbag. His book on Chris Mcandless was horrible. Not defending Mr. Mcandless, who made a very unwise choice.

It is disgusting that such flippant language is used in discussing a patriot who left a big money job to serve amid known extreme risks.

Under the theory of the headline, every volunteer who dies in military service “got himself killed.” Attention-grabbing but disrespectful. Tillman volunteered and is a hero regardless of the merits of the war, mistakes made within the military or the coverup. This all smells like publishers trying to stir up controversy in order to pump up sales.

It appears Pat Tillman was a leftist, who loved this country. I can not stress enough how impressed I was with him joining up after September 11th. He puts many Americans to shame for what he gave up monetarily. He was a hero and a patriot.

"Tillman Got Himself Killed"

Disrespectful and disgraceful title. Pat Tillman placed his life on the line when he volunteered to serve in combat. That means, that whatever his political beliefs, he was a patriot of the highest order.

He was killed by negligence/crappy training/substandard leadership and his memory is further soiled by the army's cover-up afterward.

This writer is garbage - as are all second-guessers out there who make money off trying to damage the reputation of far better people than they are.

My brother was on the final investigation team and was sent over there. There was a lot more to it than this including low light conditions and inability to properly identify friendlies due to attire and being on top of a ridge. He lost a lot of his head from a .50:cal if I remember correctly. That’s all I want to say or really know - still have pics from the visit he sent and he’s retired now.
