Have been here since 1966 and would not want to live anywhere else. It has really changed over those years.
The Opelika Alabaman I worked with for four years told me that Huntsville is filled with Yankees and doesn’t really count as Alabama.
He is a talented Linux OS guy.
He also had great stories about the numerous Koreans who live near his house, due to the Hyundai plant.
Much of my family lives south of there in Marshall County so have been going to Huntsville since I was a kid. Just enough city with plenty of country all around. Not too far from Guntersville Lake area. Definitely would consider it for retirement.
I’ve been there on business a couple of times. Lots of rocket scientists. 😏
Pleasant place from my brief experiences.
Plenty of Peoples’ Republics on that list.
Huntsville is in the ~16% percentile in safety meaning that 84% of cities are safer. Hard pass.
Far enough inland to avoid hurricanes, far enough south to avoid most major blizzards and ice storms, hilly enough to be outside of what's generally considered, "tornado alley," rural enough to dodge any potential mass civil disturbances/riots (if you keep it north of Atlanta) and not particularly prone to earthquakes.
Excellent! Everybody go there. Stay out of Idaho, Wyoming, Utah.... those places really really suck. It’s much safer and better for you in Huntsville.
“Huntsville ranks as the No. 1 metro area in the Best Places to Live in the U.S. in 2022-23 rankings, unseating Boulder, Colorado, after two years at the top.”
Boulder is without question one of the WORST places to live and has been for decades.
The fact that San Jose, CA placed 5th on this list discredits all of it for me. San Jose? It’s a high-priced armpit. AND it’s in California. Lose-lose.
And, I bet I have more friends in that area than I do here.
A ginormous amount of federal employees are in the process of or are planning on moving to the area in the very near future. Thus rendering the place not so good as taxes and home prices go through the roof.
I grew up in the 60’s/70’s in north GA and Huntsville was part of my ‘stompin ground’. I have been back a few times in the last few years for family visits. I enjoy it but I must admit I must have had a higher tolerance for all the chiggers and ticks and other insects that latch onto you in the woods back then. I have gotten really accustomed to higher altitudes in the Rockies where the cooler climates keep the bugs down, mostly.
Been here off and on for the past 30 years and have seen lots of change. They’re trying really hard to turn it and the surrounding cities (Madison, Athens, etc..) into West Atlanta.
I like Huntsville I live about 100 miles north but I may move close enough around Lynchburg we’re Huntsville will be my city but one warning it’s more liberal than the average Alabama county probably 40% Democrat and it’s a very white county so these are liberal white people with professional degrees the county voted for Trump 53% whereas the state of Alabama voted 64% so there you go buyer beware
Lived here in the HSV area for 42 years.
Just yesterday was cursing the taffic/roads that have become horrid because the roads cannot keep up with all the new housing and apartment developments going up in every open square inch.
This is not good news.... :^(
I moved to NE HSV in 2020. Close to my hometown of Fayetteville, TN.
I don’t understand how people can handle the humidity on the gulf coast.
I know a few people who have spent the better part of their lives in Huntsville TX.
