Justice Clarence Thomas on Friday compared the leak of fellow Justice's Samuel Alito's draft opinion, which would overturn abortion protections under Roe v Wade, to 'infidelity.'
Thomas, 73, said that at a conference that the leak would weaken the public's trust in the Supreme Court as an institution, calling the unauthorized disclosure of deliberations 'tremendously bad.'
In his remarks, the conservative justice, who has long called for overturning Roe, hinted that a liberal clerk may have leaked Alito's draft opinion, and lamented that partisan rancor has grown more entrenched on the high court.
Thomas pondered: 'I wonder how long we're going to have these institutions at the rate we're undermining them, and then I wonder when they're gone or destabilized what we will have as a country and I don't think the prospects are good if we continue to lose them.'
He continued: 'When you lose that trust, especially in the institution that I'm in, it changes the institution fundamentally. You begin to look over your shoulder. It's like kind of an infidelity – that you can explain it but you can't undo it,' reports Politico.
Thomas, a nominee of President George H.W. Bush, said it was beyond 'anyone's imagination' before the May 2 leak of the opinion that even a line of a draft opinion would be released in advance, much less an entire draft that runs nearly 100 pages.
Thomas, who has long said he believes the Roe decision should be overturned, was speaking at the Old Parkland Conference, a meeting of black conservatives, in Dallas where he was Friday's keynote speaker.
Following his speech, Thomas sat for a questions and answers session with John Yoo of Berkeley Law School.

I remember when, not so very long ago, when Nancy Pelosi stood up and ripped apart her copy of President Trump’s State of the Union address and thought that she was symbolically tearing apart our Constitution.

Right then and there I knew in my heart that this is not going to end well.

I have a feeling the tech media government narrative this summer will be “justifiable” violence against the Supreme Court being placated by “fixing” the filibuster, then “fixing” the Supreme Court. Manchin can’t save us with a few Uniparty (R) defections.

You are exactly right. Folks THINK they are awake about what is going on and still don’t have a clue as to where we’re headed. This is all so sad, and with enforcement of the law, avoidable. The Democrats have recently done VERY bad things and are above the law. If they get total control, the ARE going to kill whomever it takes to scare the rest into submission. All hell is about to break loose.
Roe v Wade was horrific for the nation.
It made legislation from the bench a reality. That led to the Supreme Court becoming about politics and not Constitution. That trickled through every court in the nation.
Suddenly, we are more divided after Roe. We are more lawless. Certainly the Constitution is largely ignored. Abortion by Federal Government decree, like same sex marriage, was forced upon an unwilling citizenship.
Power to the people, let the States decide.

If you can’t justify a decision, don’t make it.
It is clear that a child should not be murdered an hour before labor begins or should be induced.
It is also clear that a child that has about 50% of its DNA from its father is not all mom’s.
It is also clear that a child with a heart beat is a living human being.
No person should have any fear of stating such truths or protecting innocent human life.
Nancy did that when she falsely certified Obama as a natural born citizen, but curiously only to Hawaii.

When they find who did the leak, they should not just be dismissed, or even just disbarred, they should be sent to jail for 20 years without parole.
That does two things, discourages it happening again and restores faith in the court.
We will soon be at war with the Satan worshipping Left.

I would agree, but I’m not sure what was done is against the law, if it is what law did she break ??
She certainly enacted in an unethical way and as an officer of the court, she could and should be disbarred and never be allowed to practice law.
So all the time and money that went into getting an Ivy league legal education, will all go up in smoke.
Regardless of what happens to the person, they will become a national hero on the left and end up making a career of being the ONE person who stood up to the ultra maga crowd.
One thing I don’t mind is when Obama criticized the Supreme Court in one of his SOTU Addresses. He lied about their decision, but why shouldn’t we be able to criticize them?
A good test of the soundness of a decision or document is if it can withstand criticism.

If the Supreme Court decided correctly 49 years ago, Supreme Court justices would not be cowering in fear today.
Justice Thomas is being overly kind to Roberts.
Now that the dust has settled on this “leak” it’s crystal clear that the weasel John Roberts himself was responsible for leaking the Roe v Wade draft. Before the leak all of the justices but one had taken positions, and the clear majority supported overturning Roe v Wade. Roberts was attempting to convince the over-turners to uphold Roe v Wade for a little while longer in order to avoid riots. As if on que the leak caused demonstrations at the homes of the over-turner justices. The demonstrations turned out to be previews of what Roberts warned about.
If you were to ask Roberts’ SCOTUS opposition they would say the same thing. Roberts is NOT a conservative, and his hold-off position is a lie meant to cover his solid support for Roe v Wade.
Amazing that the leaker is STILL not identified, and no one seems to care.
