An 18-year-old Naperville has become the youngest American woman to reach the summit of Mount Everest.
Lucy Westlake posted on her Instagram Thursday morning to say she successfully reached the summit of Mount Everest at 5:40 a.m. Nepali time.
Before embarking on her climb, Lucy told ABC7 she hoped to inspire other young girls to pursue their own adventures.
Lucy Westlake is 18-years-old. She's aiming to be the youngest American woman to make the climb.
"I started climbing because my family is very adventurous. My life's mantra is 'limits are perceived,' so I love pushing myself to my very limit and discovering what my body and mind can do. So what better way to do it than climb the highest mountain in the world."
Prior to reaching the top of Mount Everest, the teen has already set records, becoming the youngest female to summit the 50 U.S. state highpoints last June.

How do they even know she is a woman? And if there is no difference between men and women, why do these stories always make a big deal about a woman doing things men do all the time?

Not trying to take anything away from them, it's certainly not for the faint-hearted, but it's not like they are starting at sea level and climbing the full 29,000 feet.
Women have been held back by male privilege. In the future, there will be a first black woman, first lesbian black women. The focus is to keep the focus on identity and keep us divided.
Great attitude, hope she has the grounding to pick her battles and the wisdom to make good choices.
If I was much much younger, I'd take my chances in finding out.

You still have to hike UP to base camp @ 17598 feet.
The airport at Kathmandu is 4593 so, they do start fairly high up to start.
Most people do not handle the “death zone” without a lot of successful hikes above 15m’.
It is an incredible accomplishment for any human being just to survive being over 20m’ in elevation.
Let her try the north face of the Eiger if she really wants a challenge.

Well, that answers my main question.
It is an incredible accomplishment, again, I don't want to detract from that.
New Supreme Court Justice gave her/him/it the name of a biologist. So, it’s all good.
I hope she took some time to count the bodies on the way up.
