Governor Beshear sues state officers (Kentucky)

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WKYT) - Governor Andy Beshear is suing all of Kentucky’s constitutional officers.

The governor filed suit Thursday afternoon against Attorney General Daniel Cameron, Secretary of State Michael Adams, State Treasurer Alison Ball, State Auditor Mike Harmon and Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles. All are Republicans.

The lawsuit is over House Bill 334. The measure would remove current members of the executive branch ethics commission. It shifts the majority of the appointments to the other state officers.

Governor Beshear vetoed the bill, but lawmakers overrode the veto.

Secretary of State Adams released this statement on the lawsuit:

This unexpected lawsuit pertains to House Bill 334, a good-government bill that prevents a governor from stacking the ethics commission with his cronies by allocating appointments among the constitutional officers.

I was disappointed in 2020 when the Governor vetoed emergency legislation to allow us to work together to save the election. Thank God he was overridden; I shudder to think what would have happened had his reckless act stood.

I was disappointed this year when the Governor vetoed a bipartisan election reform bill that every Democratic senator and most Democratic representatives voted for. Now I’m disappointed by his lawsuit to stop Democratic and Republican ethics appointees from working together.

As a Kentucky resident, all I can say is I hope this is the last d@#n Democrat governor we have for a very long time. He should have never gotten elected anyway if Matt had just kept his mouth shut a few times when he didn’t.

Why don’t they impeach and remove this guy? They have the votes.

Kentucky has had only 2-3 Republican governors over the past 100 years. With voting for Trump over Obama/Biden at about 63-37 you’d think we would never have another Democrat governor.

However, the previous governor, Matt Bevin, a Republican, actually tried to fix Kentucky’s worst-in-the-nation pension system. But that ticked off the teachers and so the teachers didn’t vote for Bevin’s re-election and thus Beshear won (barely).

Note: the teachers didn’t vote for Beshear either, they just didn’t vote for Governor, thus the vote count for governor was much, much lower than during the previous governor’s election.

But he has very little power. The state legislative branches are overwhelmingly Republican and can easily override anything he vetoes. We’ll throw his ass out next November.

Before becoming governor, Bevin ran in the primary against McConnell but lost (I voted for Bevin). I predict that he’ll run again and win when McConnell is out. I hope it’s soon.

Love to have Matt Bevin as our Jr Senator. But the Good Lord is the only one that will remove McConnell from office. The Lust for Power is strong in Mitch. McConnell will push AG Canaron, the RINO, for Senate. I think, Tom Massie, my House Rep would make a great Senator, while putting Matt Bevin back in charge of the Commonwealth as our governor. Matt’s loss was not because his speaking out, it was bec he spoke the truth.

He should have never gotten elected anyway if Matt had just kept his mouth shut a few times when he didn’t.

I suspect that there was vote fraud involved.

I've identified how the DNC and Brandon Media coordinate to "nudge" races like this with lurid media coverage, so they can mask vote fraud.

They did it with Todd Akin in Missouri and Richard Mourdock in Indiana in 2012.

After the race is rigged, they point to stuff like you said: "if Matt had just kept his mouth shut a few times when he didn’t", laughing all the way to the bank with their stolen political office.

Kentucky ‘Rats have a playbook for ousting Republican governors after one term: find one chickensh — er, chickenscratch issue to blow up into a major scandal. With Bevin it was ‘being mean to teachers.’ With Gov. Fletcher they made a fishing expedition into his administration’s emails and found some where people were promised state jobs based on patronage. As if Frankfort ‘Rats don’t do the same thing. They’re just better at not getting caught, and the press can be counted on to look the other way.

If by some miracle we do get a Republican governor elected next year the party had better keep his nose clean and figure out how to win that game.

This is of particular interest to me because we moved to KY a year and a half ago. We had visited here twice the year before, while Mr. Bevins was still in office. I was thrilled at the thought he’d be our governor. Then Beshear held the office when we got here. What a disappointment! Bevins certainly seemed like the real deal. Our (conservative) landlady at the time explained about him cheesing off the teachers union, resulting in the zero now occupying the office. Sigh....

Similar to NC. We have only had 3 republican governors in the past 120 years.

Correct.

We’ve got to get him out of there next year.

Yes, coming out in favor of toll roads in northern Kentucky just before the election was the final nail in the coffin for him - deep red counties were either very light red or even light blue on the election map thanks to that comment - more than enough to have made up the margin. One of a succession of major unforced errors on his part.

That was actually one of the best years on record for Republicans for state office elections overall...a no-name even beat the former Miss America. Bevin put his foot in his mouth one too many times and we lost the top prize.
