“Fertilizer shortages are real now.”

Uttered by USAID’s Samantha Power in a May 1 ABC interview with former Democratic advisor George Stephanopoulos, the words briefly drowned out the din of the news cycle. They were not unexpected to some. Power, who served as U.N. ambassador under Obama, mentioned fertilizer shortages after weeks of hints from the Biden administration.

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki repeatedly alluded to challenges obtaining fertilizer in recent press briefings. So did President Joe Biden himself in a joint statement with EU President Ursula von der Leyen.

“We are deeply concerned by how Putin’s war in Ukraine has caused major disruptions to international food and agriculture supply chains, and the threat it poses to global food security. We recognize that many countries around the world have relied on imported food staples and fertilizer inputs from Ukraine and Russia, with Putin’s aggression disrupting that trade,” the leaders stated.

In an April report titled, “The Ukraine Conflict and Other Factors Contributing to High Commodity Prices and Food Insecurity,” the USDA’s Foreign Agriculture Service acknowledged that “for agricultural producers around the world, high fertilizer and fuel prices are a major concern.”

While political rhetoric has often focused on Russia, the rise in fertilizer prices did not begin with its invasion of Ukraine. An analysis from the Peterson Institute of International Economics shows that fertilizer prices have rapidly climbed since mid-2021, spiking first in late 2021 and again around the time of the invasion. Industry observers have pointed out that commodity prices are not solely affected by Vladimir Putin.

Max Gagliardi, an Oklahoma City oil and gas industry commentator who cofounded the energy marketing firm Ancova Energy, told The Epoch Times that the war and sanctions have helped drive the upward climb of natural gas prices in Europe...

I could not justify the more than double the price fertilizer for my hay field. Yield will be much lower this summer. So there will be less hay for cows and horses available for my neighbors. Oh, not just fertilizer, the cost of weed killer is also more than double - so not only less yield, but will be more weedy - as in less quality.

When I was stationed in [West] Germany in the 70's, I would sometimes come across a field being fertilized from a truck full of human waste (what a stench!).

We have PLENTY of that in DC should it come to it.

Yup! Well...Ammonia is made partly from natural gas. Fertilizer is made from Ammonia. Fertilizer plants use an industrial process called Haber-Bosch to generate the intense heat and pressure required to separate the nitrogen atoms in N2 and combine them with hydrogen from natural gas to produce ammonia. The point being you aint getting fertilizer without natural gas. And thanks to Brandon, we produce 1.4Million less barrels of oil less per DAY since he was put in office. Natural gas production is down 20Billion cubic feet per day since 2020.

This is what I think is behind the fertilizer shortage and is part of the Great Reset.

From the article- “…Food for Peace, formally known as P.L 480, has been one of the most harmful programs of aid to Third World countries. While sometimes alleviating hunger in the short run, the program usually lowers the price at which Third World farmers can sell their crops This depresses local food production, making it harder for poor countries to feed themselves in the long run.”

Poor countries’ near subsistence farming will never be able to compete with the industrial farming of the First World. I see the self inflicted fertilizer and supply chain shortages as a way to kneecap efficient farming countries. The rising food prices would benefit small, “organic” farming in poor countries and possibly slow the mass migration from poor agrarian areas to wealthy urban ones.

I had a CaddyShack greens keeping job once. My golf course bought it’s greens fertilizer from India made from human feces. It wasn’t that much more than traditional and worked real good.

The local dairy farms around here are selling the contents of their manure lagoons at a profit these days. It used to be a real headache for them to use it all or process it. Same with the composted manure/hog fuel piles.
