How Ukraine Uses Obsolete Soviet Grenades To Destroy Russian Tanks From Above

Ukrainian fighters have found a new use for outdated grenades that is proving spectacularly effective at destroying Russian tanks and other armored vehicles.

This photo released by Aerorozvidka, an organization that develops Ukraine's use of small drones in warfare, shows a Ukrainian-made octocopter drone with two bomblets mounted beneath it.

Videos recently released by Aerorozvidka show what appears to be the same, tail-finned explosives being dropped by drone before destroying armored vehicles with catastrophic explosions. Weapons trackers following the conflict in Ukraine have identified the bomblets as modified Soviet-era RKG-3 anti-tank grenades with 3D-printed tail fins attached to stabilize their fall from drones…..

Great article posted here a few weeks ago from an American general who had worked with the Ukrainians for a long time, and witnessed their improvements and growing professionalism. Really worth a read:

Russia invaded. Twice. That is the factual starting point.

They are opportunists. The war may not have been started by them but that doesn't mean they cant use it for other purposes.

That may well be true, but the bolded language is what pertains to the point I was making. The idea that this was was started by anyone other than Russia/Putin is absurd.

while you’re criticizing others for denying history, don’t forget to criticize yourself

2 years before 2014, there was NO ethnic problems in the region. But there WAS oil & gas reserves to be exploited. You seem to have completely forgotten that in 2012 oil & gas reserves were being explored by Exxon and western oil companies. This war is about oil & gas reserves. The last time we had an oppressive regime invade their neighbor over oil & gas, an international coalition kicked his ass back to Iraq.

Why Russia wants to invade Ukraine

https://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/4050958/posts

The Russians weren’t even interested in eastern Ukraine until oil was found there. Their interest is simply in raping that country. Russia gets 60% of its revenues from oil exports. Europe gets 40% of their oil from Russia.

In 2012 massive oil and gas reserves were found in Crimea. Crimea signed a $10 billion exploration contracts with Shell and Chevron to develop the new found oil and gas fields. These oil and gas products would compete in Europe with Russia’s oil and gas, reducing Russia’s oil revenues, which we recall amount to 60% of their total GDP. Russia annexed Crimea in 2014, cancelling the contracts with Shell and Chevron.

But Ukraine still had massive reserves in, you guessed it, Donetsk and Luhansk, and other areas East of the Dnieper River. In 2019, Energy Secretary Rick Perry visited Ukraine, and soon after Ukraine awarded exploration contracts to a consortium of U.S. oil companies. Again, these oil reserves would compete in Europe with Russian oil, so Putin is invading Ukraine to shut down this latest attempt to extract Ukrainian oil and sell it in competition with Russian oil.

This explanation makes more sense to me than the “Putin feels threatened by NATO expansion” excuses for the invasion.

If the Ukes allow some small region in the west to be its own republic, but the OIL belongs to Ukraine, do ya think Pootypoot would allow that? Nope.

A big problem with having Ukraine separate from russia unlike other areas, Ukraine happens to be where all the smart people live.

If your doing it right, the printer is only to make templates for molds. Now with molds you can cast the fins with resins or aluminum.

Don’t forget another obvious salient. Russia invaded twice when there were weak-kneed presidents at POTUS, and did nothing while Trump was there. Putin can smell cowardice and acts accordingly.

I guess they are not so 'obsolete' if they destroy tanks. But who knows if they do. There is so much propaganda about a war that has zero national interest.

Biden, Democrats and Liz Cheney Republicans want another $33 billion of tax dollars that do not exist to go to Ukraine. That's just one month. It's more than what we spend on our border for an entire year.

So don't stop the invasion at our border and send us deeper into inflation. Eff all you war mongers.

It’s a well reasoned argument, but I don’t think it will sway anyone. They support Russia simply because Biden supports Ukraine, and they foolishly think, since Biden is their enemy, anything he supports must be wrong. They’re the type of people who, if they opposed FDR, would probably support the Nazis just because FDR condemned them.

Even on that front the Ukrainian Lend-Lease bill went 100-0 in Senate.

That means all 50 Republican senators must be part of the plot! Q probably predicted that.

By your own admission, Russia isn’t “right” or “justified” in thinking that we are the aggressor, yet you are defending their delusional thinking anyway. Sorry, but your argument is all over the place and I don’t think it’s worth arguing against, since you already argue against yourself in your own post.

That would be a historic first, Q actually getting a prediction right for once.

Sounds like pulling the pin just arms it and the impact does the rest.

Safety considerations. Perhaps the grenade is not fully armed until the parachute deploys or the grenade impact fuse requires a certain amount of force to detonate. You don't want a super sensitive fuse active before the target is selected.

The grenades are good for overhead attack because the armor is not thick on top. Throw one of these at a tank from the ground and you may hit thick armor. 200 mm of armor penetration is generally not enough for, say, frontal slopes or a turret front. But drop it straight down and you go through 40 mm of armor like a knife through butter. Use a second one to penetrate if the first got defeated by the reactive armor panels.

Perhaps, but so what? We don’t live in a perfect world, and we never will (at least until Jesus comes back). We have to live in the world as it is, which means often picking the lesser of two evils, since those are the only options an imperfect world usually gives us.

AZOV did not want their hostages to leave Mariupol

Nonsense. They were there at their own free will. Besides, Ukraine would never do that because they know it's a war crime to do so.
