If the Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade, the legal and culture wars over abortion that have consumed the United States for decades would increasingly shift to a new front: the use of abortion pills.
Medication abortion — a two-drug combination that can be taken at home or in any location and is authorized for use in the first 10 weeks of pregnancy — has become more and more prevalent and now accounts for more than half of recent abortions in the United States. If the federal guarantee of abortion rights disappears, medication abortion would likely become an even more sought-after method for terminating a pregnancy — and the focus of battles between states that ban abortion and those that continue to allow it.
“Given that most abortions are early and medication abortion is harder to trace and already kind of becoming the majority or preferred method, it’s going to be a big deal,” Mary Ziegler, a legal scholar who has written widely on abortion, said. “It’s going to generate a lot of forthcoming legal conflicts because it’s just going to be a way that state borders are going to become less relevant.”
About half the states are expected to quickly make all methods of abortion illegal if the justices’ decision in a Mississippi case resembles a draft opinion leaked this week that would nullify the 1973 ruling that legalized abortion. In Louisiana, a legislative committee this week advanced a bill that would allow homicide charges to be brought against people who get abortions or perform them.
Other states would likely continue to allow abortion, and several are already taking steps to accommodate patients from the states where abortion may be outlawed.

Actually from what I've read women already have been because it's cheaper from getting them at an abortion facility. Clinics can charge up to $400. they get them on line for $92.00
That's the way it was prior to 1973.
This is just more proof just how utterly disastrous Roe v Wade was. All of this division, this litmus tests on SCOTUS nominees, the so-called blue vs red state divide - is due because of Roe v Wade.

And who is selling them online for shipment to the US? I can think of a few agencies that would be interested in knowing this.
In Eastern Washington, they actually have ‘Plan B’ vending machines in 5 different cities, operating and available 24/7. For $25, you can purchase a dose of it.

From what I understand, some abortion pills are available OTC without a prescription; others are only available that way for those over 17.
It’s kind of scary that this stuff is being dispensed willy-nilly. As many - if not more - will wind up being harmed or dying this way than did from the coat hanger.
Assuming this is true, have there really been no side effects to women that required hospitalization from this?
It would seem that the opportunities for litigation would be unlimited.

With a country as litigious as our own, it's incredible a company would allow something like this, and for a $25 item.

Plan B is OTC in every state.......it must be taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex or contraceptive failure although it is most effective the sooner it is taken.
It contains Levonorgestrel, a progestin (also found in many oral contraceptives)......works by mainly blocking the release of an egg from the ovary and may also work by preventing fertilization of a released egg .
Plan B and it’s newest iteration “Ella” (can be taken up to 5 days after unprotected sex) are “Emergency Contraption”....some call these the “morning after pills”.
Not the same thing as an abortion pill. There are 3 basic drugs used ....methotrexate, Misoprostol, Mifepristone.
Don’t jump to conclusions just because someone is on these as often used for other reasons as well. For example....These are also used for miscarriage’s because sometimes there needs to be assistance.

Likely has lot’s of warning on the box not to take more than one box.
Everything OTC has CYA manufacturer warnings. Don’t take prilosec for more than 14 days (without consulting your doctor). Don’t take Miralax for more than a week. Don’t take Sudafed for more than 4 days. Most of these can be taken for years.
And if they’re pregnant, and THEN take it? Does it just do nothing?

A lot of women miss taking their oral contraceptive (they fail if you miss 2)....get pregnant (day 14 of cycle)...not realize it until after day 28 when they should have had their period. No harm done.
Plan B is not an abortion drug. Plan B, which is taken “the next morning” prevents conception. It creates an environment where the sperm cannot fertilize the egg. So, it’s not “abortion.”
In fact, as long as a pregnancy test comes back negative, Catholic hospitals will provide Plan B to “rape” patients.
It is important to be clear about the differences between these meds.
I’m skeptical about the coat hanger line.
Are there any documented cases of such?
