More than half of all US states have some kind of abortion ban law that is likely to take effect if Roe v Wade is overturned by the United States Supreme Court, according to a report.
On Monday, a leaked Supreme Court draft opinion written by Samuel Alito and published by POLITICO revealed that the court has voted to strike down the landmark 1973 ruling, which legalized abortion in the United States.
Alito wrote in part, 'Roe was egregiously wrong from the start.' The George W. Bush-appointed justice goes on to say that the issue of abortion should be returned to the 'people's elected representatives' to decide.
The opinion was drafted in February 2022. It's likely that a final ruling will be made public within the next two months, reports Politico.
Republican-appointed justices – Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett voted with Alito.
And states across the country are laying the groundwork for what comes after the more than 40-year-old ruling is nullified.
According to the pro-reproductive rights group The Guttmacher Institute, at least 22 states have laws on the books that would come into effect once the decision is officially adopted.

Misleading title. Most of the states will pass laws limiting abortion, not outlawing it.
Those limeys sure enjoy influencing our politics.
Add North Carolina and Kansas to that list.
Maybe this will get blue staters to stop moving to red states. Maybe this issue will ger people to start collecting into more homogenous communities so that secession can become a real possibility.
There is only one governor (Noem) who said they would outlaw it, and I don’t even know if this is an executive action rather than a legislative one. This will be a slow process, full of surprises on both sides, but at least we get to have a voice in it now.
The newsies take the same position as the Left - any form of limit on abortion is the same as an outright ban. Women! need the ability to abort up to and including the day of birth. Any other view is sexist, racist and homophobic.
Lieberals need not worry.
States stopping pre-born murder will still have trains rolling, airline tickets and bus tickets.
ny already has a law on the books....You can get an abortion here no matter what happens.
Abortion in most the 26 states mentioned will allow abortion but with time restrictions. In the UK abortions are legal up to 24 weeks. Daily Mail doesn’t mention that.
This should end the debate over whether or not prayer works.
Good. If I have to drive to another state to buy a high capacity magazine for my rifle, then women can go to another state to murder their children. It’s not too much to ask. /s
Progressive SCOTUS judge William O Douglas contended that the Bill of Rights specific guarantees have "penumbras," created by "emanations from these guarantees that help give them life and opinion."
Meaning - the constitution can mean whatever leftist social-engineers declare it means. It has taken nearly 60 years to get the point of pushing back against this terrible idea.

The socialists can do what they did in Nazi Germany and stick the undesirables on trains to take them to death camps in other areas.
Purposely Misleading title. Very few if any states will ban it. If the leak does not cause a Justice to flip l expect a first trimester law of some kind in many of R states.
I think they have to go back and look at the precedence for each state. This “leak” lists them in the appendix. PLEASE read these state laws...which may still be on the books.
Sets into motion a fairly chaotic summer, with politicians forced to cancel summer vacations to somehow find a ‘fix’ for this.
I agree with you but would wish for a strict ban just so libs would flee red states like Texas and pack into blue states. Good riddance.
