Climate change is pushing mammals into new territory, increasing the number of opportunities for viruses to jump from species to species — including humans. By 2070, if global temperatures continue to rise as predicted, there could be a total of 15,000 new cross-species “viral sharing events,” according to new research published today in the journal Nature.
Of the at least 10,000 virus species in mammals capable of infecting humans, most are still only circulating among animals in the wild. The worry is that more of those viruses could eventually make the leap to humans, potentially sparking a health crisis like the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Ultimately, this work provides us with more incontrovertible evidence that the coming decades will not only be hotter but sicker,” Gregory Albery, a disease ecologist at Georgetown University and co-lead author of the study, said in a call with reporters.

Over the past few thousand years people died from plague more in the centuries long cooling periods (i.e. Greek Dark Age, Dark Age, and especially the most recent Little Ice Age). The warming periods (i.e. Minoan Warm Period, Roman Warm Period, Medieval Warm Period, and Modern Warm Period) are great times to be alive, including relatively small loss of life from disease.
For example, as bad as covid is (pretending for now the numbers are real) it's nothing like when 1/4th to 1/3rd of Europe, Asia and Africa died from the Bubonic Plague.
If you're worried about plagues, warmer is better. We should be glad we live during the Modern Warm Period. If there's any regrets about it, we should regret that the Modern Warm Period isn't liable to get as warm as the most recent warm period, which didn't get as warm as the one before that, etc.
Ah, the mandatory daily climate porn has arrived.
The media can now check that box.
Warming also allows more land for crop growth.
I think the Romans had vineyards all the way up to Britain.
A warming world gives Fauci more chances to make viruses while he’s wearing short pants and a tank top.
Sure these viruses will be jumping from animals to humans more in the future!! With a little help from Fouci and company with their genome transcription. Translation, we’re still working on gain of function so be prepared for more pandemics to help institute the great reset. But lets blame it on climate change and kill two birds with one stone.
Especially with a little help from friends of Dr Fauci..../s
I thought a lot of activists switched from using “warming” to “change” because weather was exposing their lie.
I’m getting really tired of this crap.
Like, I’m scared man.
I wish it would get a little warmer in Ohio as it has been cold as hell this Spring and even has snowed 4 times in April. We even had @2 inches of snow a little over a week ago. What these idiots leave out is the fact that getting colder is a much greater danger to our world than a “warming world.” Plants, animals, and people DO NOT thrive in the cold.
More people die in cold periods than warm. Warm periods increase agriculture, science advances and exploration increases. In short mankind progresses. Or as sang in Prokey and Bess, Summertime and the living is easy “!
“could be” and the speculation (which is all it is) is no proof that what they speculate “will be”.
so why the article?
climate alarmism - one of the new religions taught in K-12 schools as “science”
I stoped at the word COULD.
BS...they will only make the jump via of mass-murdering buttholes...you know, kinda like Fauxi.
It’s 38 degrees here in the Mohawk Valley of NY State. They’re calling for snow flurries tonight. We’ve had snow on Mother’s Day before too. Sure could use some of that warming they keep talking about.
“Climate change is pushing mammals into new territory, increasing the number of opportunities for viruses to jump from species to species — including humans.”
The sky is falling The sky is falling
GIVE GOVERNMENT MORE POWER
Or we're all going to die!
Good.
lol
it’s NOT warming!
Here in Pittsburgh our magnolia tree lost almost all its flowerbuds. First time that happened in the 34 years we've lived here. Global warming is bullsh1t!
And we're only about 40 miles north of the Mason-Dixon line.
