Watching St. Elmo's Fire now, I would say that is in the middle.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit. It would put it in the top five.

One for the “Best” list: Blade Runner. Would also like to pull Alien into the decade, even though it was 1979. And I would put Top Gun on the “Best” list, even though it deserves an honorable mention on the “Worst” list for that volleyball scene (I’m sure the ladies would disagree, but come on). And while I loved all of the original trilogy Star Wars movies, those da%#ed Ewoks need their own place on the “Worst” list.

Worst that I saw while living in the 80s was “The Neverending Story” which seemed to never end. Best was Fitzcarraldo tied with Trading Places.

Indiana Jones Raiders of the Lost Ark

Garbage Pail Kids

80s had so many great and horrible movies. I especially like the pre green screen horror and sci fi when they actually had to rely on physical special effects.

Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1981, which took special effects one full step past the original Star Wars film that came out in 1977.

I loved Top Gun. Part of which was filmed on my ship when I was in the Navy. Unfortunately it was filmed just prior to my arrival on board. Good flick though. Got really tired of hearing the music though whenever we would pull into port. They’d also run marathons of the movie when we were out to sea.

First of all, there were way too many sci-fi, teen identity crises and fantasies in the 80s.

That said, there are some memorable films, even some of the ones in those categories.

Field of dreams just flat feels good.
Nat Lampoon Vacation broke some ground in humor.
Princess Bride is a memorable classic (Mark Knopfler’s score is not to be missed)
Terminator is a classic and started a fun series
Raiders was exciting and memorable
Die Hard was one of the greats
