Repo Man.
repo man is both the best and worst movie of the 80s
Who Framed Roger Rabbit. It would put it in the top five.
One for the “Best” list: Blade Runner. Would also like to pull Alien into the decade, even though it was 1979. And I would put Top Gun on the “Best” list, even though it deserves an honorable mention on the “Worst” list for that volleyball scene (I’m sure the ladies would disagree, but come on). And while I loved all of the original trilogy Star Wars movies, those da%#ed Ewoks need their own place on the “Worst” list.
By the way, off-topic because it’s a ‘90s movie, but I Love Trouble with Julia Roberts and Nick Nolte has my vote for worst movie of all time. It was so bad that I’ve never been able to forget it only for that reason.
Worst that I saw while living in the 80s was “The Neverending Story” which seemed to never end. Best was Fitzcarraldo tied with Trading Places.
Worst: Popeye.
“off-topic”
“The Passion Of The Christ” from 2004 is the movie that has the greatest effect on me. I regret my sins and sloth and want to be a better person every time I see it.
Think “Rain Man”(1988) is Tom Cruise’s best movie. Always watch “Die Hard (1988) when it comes on. “Witness” (1985) with Harrison Ford is an interesting religious movie. Stallone’s “Rambo” movies from the 80s (especially “First Blood”) as well as Rocky III and Rocky IV are guilty pleasures. Lot of great action movies in the 80s.
Best:
The Breakfast Club
Sixteen Candles
Alien
Aliens 2
Heaven Help Us. (very underrated)
The Big Chill
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off!
The Big Chill
I need to watch that one as I never did.
christine...
What a boomer movie, and I am not trying to be insulting.
"Fast Times at Ridgemont High" is the epitomie of the 80's.
Indiana Jones Raiders of the Lost Ark
Garbage Pail Kids
80s had so many great and horrible movies. I especially like the pre green screen horror and sci fi when they actually had to rely on physical special effects.
Well, that’s why I didn’t watch it when it was on HBO in the 80s. I couldn’t relate to the content.

That’s a great list, and I can’t argue with any of them. One more that I would pull in from right at the edge of the decade (1990) is of course The Hunt for Red October. Finally, my vote for best cult classic of the 1980s would be The Gods must be Crazy. I love that movie. It has heart and wit and goofy slapstick comedy. But then they makes me wonder how I forgot Airplane, which is just in a category of its own.
