Also worth mentioning in the “best” or “better” category The Natural, Field of Dreams, No Way Out, Good Morning Vietnam, Tin Men, When Harry Met Sally, Hannah and Her Sisters, The Purple Rose of Cairo, Broadway Danny Rose.
Wonder if the “Donald Trump lotto” comment in Lethal Weapon 2 would generate plenty of laughs in a revival theatre these days?
For a few more: Back to the Future, Predator, Heavy Metal, The Last Starfighter, Batman, The Wrath of Khan, Spaceballs, Legend, Chances Are, Aliens, Enemy Mine, Mad Max, Beyond Thunderdome, Lifeforce, and yeah.... I watched a lot of movies.
Flashdance.
Agreed. I nearly forgot about that one.
The James Bond franchise was best with For Your Eyes Only, Octopussy, and The Living Daylights but “turkeyed” with View To A Kill.
The Star Trek franchise was best with The Search for Spock and The Voyage Home but sucked with The Final Frontier.
This is from a 1993 movie, but it speaks to your comment:
Night of the comet.
Not 80’s (90’s) Bridges of Madison County. One of the best all-time.
Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure
License to Drive
Dirty Dancing
Red Dawn
Moscow on the Hudson
Spies Like Us
Lethal Weapon
Naked Gun
Police Academy
Almost forgot - Nightmare on Elm Street.
Worst: Popeye.
Naw, that was a fun movie, with lots of enjoyable scenes and great Harry Nillson songs. The problem as I recall was that the producers cut the budget suddenly near the end of production, and Robert Altman had to throw everything together and rush a cheap ending. The sum was less than the parts.
Best: say hello to my little friend, Scarface.
Worst: Anything starring Jane Fonda
Best: Tie - 16 Candles or Stripes
Worst: Tie - Howard the Duck or Ishtar
Gymkata- brutal, the worst
No Way Out
Delta Force
The Right Stuff (1983)
Raging Bull (1980)
The Untouchables (1987)
Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
Amadeus (1984)
The Natural (1984)
Even when 80s flicks weren't that good, you could usually find somebody in the cast that you really liked, especially if you were more or less of that generation.
But Dead Poets Society did inspire this great parody: https://youtu.be/Ie6LpKOJVf0
Sam: Why is it what you just said strikes me as a massive rationalization?
- Michael: Don’t knock rationalization; where would we be without it?
I don’t know anyone who could get through the day without two or
three juicy rationalizations. They’re more important than sex.
- Sam: Come on, nothing’s more important that sex.
- Michael: Yeah? Ever gone a week without a rationalization?”
“Daddy would have gotten us Uzis!”
