An elderly Slidell man has "significant" injuries after being attacked by a "vicious" squirrel Tuesday, police said.
It's the second reported squirrel attack this year in Slidell, according to authorities.
The 78-year-old man told authorities he was walking outside his home when the squirrel came from the direction of his roof and attacked him unprovoked. The squirrel "was eating his hand," according to a written statement from Slidell police about the 911 call.
"The man was attempting to choke the squirrel, but was unable to obtain a good grip," police said.
The man was still struggling with the animal when first responders arrived, police said. They were able to subdue the squirrel, which died from its injuries.
The man was taken to a hospital for his injuries, police said, some of which were "pretty significant." He's expected to make a full recovery.

Makes for a good jambalaya addition in these Bidenflation times.
I still have a scar on my thumb from a squirrel that bit me when I was a kid. 50+ years ago. Little bastard.
I’ll say I was at fault. I was trying to grab him to pet him. After he bit me I grabbed a stick and was trying to smack him.
A Squirrel bit my Moose of a Sister
don’t ever try it with raccoons, they will mess you up in a big hurry (Lots of videos on the show ‘ridiculousness’ that show them attacking- )
Squirrels can carry rabies, and the treatment for that is pretty horrible. Hope the man makes a full recovery.
I had always heard that rodents (with the lone exception of Woodchucks) don’t carry rabies...
Hey now no reason to racial profile the black squirrel LOL
Squirrels can carry rabies. I usually give ‘em a pretty wide birth.
An old coworker got a broken collarbone courtesy of one.....riding his bike and one ran across the road into his front spokes, locked up the front tire and over the handlebars he went.
That was way pre covid.....I doubt he’s lived it down yet.
I told him his story shoulda been bar fight....but noooo.
The treatment isn’t as horrible now as it used to be - series of 4 shots, but not in the stomach in decades. I know lots of people who have gone through it because of an incident where they worked.

Liberal co workers?
Little b@stards have been trying to get in my bird feeders. They are on a double shepherds hook. Finally greased the pole with Vaseline. Been pretty fun watching that.
If that fails...I’m on to the next project. 😆

They can have rabies, but it’s very rare:
They can carry other diseases, though.
LOL!
Probably mostly liberal, but that wasn’t the reason :-)
LOL!
