Third day in hospital identified as a 'tipping point' in severity of COVID-19 pneumonia (interferon-γ induced protein 10(IP-10) & tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) tests showed the critical shift)

New research has identified the third day of hospitalization as a tipping point in the progression of disease among symptomatic patients admitted for COVID-19 pneumonia.
An overactive immune response to the SARS-CoV-2 virus can cause COVID-19 pneumonia with severe complications.
…Blood samples were taken at days 1, 3, 5, and 7 of hospitalization and levels of three host proteins that play vital roles in the COVID-19 immune response were measured: interferon-γ induced protein 10(IP-10), C-reactive protein (CRP) and tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL).
In general, TRAIL levels increased over time, while CRP and IP-10 fell in all patients.
On Day 1, there was no difference in levels of the proteins between the two groups.
But by Day 3, clear differences had emerged. TRAIL levels were lower (median 21 vs. 30 pg/mL) and IP-10 levels higher (median 713 vs. 328 pg/mL) in the severe group than the non-severe group. IP-10 levels also remained elevated until day 5 in the severe patients (median 560 vs. 212 pg/mL).
On Day 3, an IP-10 level of ≥ 570 pg/mL and a TRAIL level £25 pg/mL were indicators of progression to severe COVID-19 pneumonia.
Additionally, the severe group took longer to recover (12 days on average vs. 4 days), had a higher mortality rate (20% vs. 0%), and was eight times more likely to develop invasive secondary infections than the non-severe group.
The researchers say that the patterns in the host immune response could potentially be used to identify patients who are likely to become severely ill before they deteriorate.
Dr. Sophonsri adds: "The observed patterns in the host immune response provide insight into the immunopathology of COVID-19, revealing a potential turning point in disease progression on Day 3 of admission and the utility of IP-10 and TRAIL as markers to guide therapeutic intervention."

It appears these two tests show what direction patients will take, as early as Day 3 in the hospital.

The “Take Charge Of Your Health” Ping List
This potentially high volume ping list is for health articles and studies which describe something you or your doctor, when informed, may be able to immediately implement for your benefit.
Now keeping a new list (“Common/Top Issues”) for conditions expected to only concern at least 1% of the population. Ask to be on either the “Common/Top Issues” or “Everything” list.

I know folks who couldn’t get admitted even with presumed COVID pneumonia.
They were told to recover at home.

Is Covid pneumonia different than just pneumonia?

My guess is that the real money making ends after day #3, at which point the fedzilla cash begins to diminish in favor of new fresh cases flush with funding.

We’re any of the sample patients being given Remdisivir at time of blood draws?

Probably easier said, than done.
Or, take safe and effective preventative/treatments, at first signs…..and, likely avoid the hospital, altogether.

Where is the study for people prescribed Ivermectin before the 3rd day in the hospital, instead of being sent home and told to take a Tylenol and wait until hospitalization is “necessary”?
Where is that study?

I get bronchitis and pneumonia after some jackwagon at work pulls the pin and let's loose one of those dry chemical fire extinguishers. I've got about an hour toget to the hospital and get prednisone in an IV drip or I'm on the floor gasping for breath. A day later pneumonia sets in if the bronchitis hasn't gotten me treatment in the ER.
A bucket of water puts most fires out nicely. If it's an exotic fire of chemicals or electricity, Halon, CO2, puts it out nicely. FWIW, stay away from dry chemical extinguishers.

Well as long as I can stand up and walk, they can’t stop me from leaving. Hospitals have tried, and hospitals have failed.

No worries! Nothing a little life saving Remdesiver and a ventilator won’t cure! /s
