Russia cuts gas to Poland as U.S., allies to send Ukraine more heavy weapons

Ukraine accused Russia of blackmailing Europe over energy in an attempt to break its allies, as fighting heads into a third month without Russia capturing a major city

WARSAW/SOFIA/KYIV — Russia halted gas supplies to Poland under the Yamal contract on Wednesday, data from the European Union network of gas transmission operators showed, in a deepening of the rift between the West and Russia over its invasion of Ukraine.

Bulgaria, like Poland a NATO and EU member, said earlier that Russia would also halt supplies of gas to it.

Ukraine accused Russia of blackmailing Europe over energy in an attempt to break its allies, as fighting heads into a third month without Russia capturing a major city.

Poland’s gas supply contract with energy giant Gazprom is for 10.2 billion cubic meters (bcm) per year, and covers about 50% of national consumption.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has called on “unfriendly” countries to pay for gas imports in roubles, a demand only a few buyers have implemented.

“The ultimate goal of Russia’s leadership is not just to seize the territory of Ukraine, but to dismember the entire center and east of Europe and deal a global blow to democracy,” Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said late on Tuesday.

This war is about OIL. https://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/4050958/posts

The Russians weren’t even interested in eastern Ukraine until oil was found there. Their interest is simply in raping that country. Russia gets 60% of its revenues from oil exports. Europe gets 40% of their oil from Russia.

In 2012 massive oil and gas reserves were found in Crimea. Crimea signed a $10 billion exploration contracts with Shell and Chevron to develop the new found oil and gas fields. These oil and gas products would compete in Europe with Russia’s oil and gas, reducing Russia’s oil revenues, which we recall amount to 60% of their total GDP. Russia annexed Crimea in 2014, cancelling the contracts with Shell and Chevron.

But Ukraine still had massive reserves in, you guessed it, Donetsk and Luhansk, and other areas East of the Dnieper River. In 2019, Energy Secretary Rick Perry visited Ukraine, and soon after Ukraine awarded exploration contracts to a consortium of U.S. oil companies. Again, these oil reserves would compete in Europe with Russian oil, so Putin is invading Ukraine to shut down this latest attempt to extract Ukrainian oil and sell it in competition with Russian oil.

This explanation makes more sense to me than the “Putin feels threatened by NATO expansion” excuses for the invasion.

If the Ukes allow some small region in the west to be its own republic, but the OIL belongs to Ukraine, do ya think Pootypoot would allow that? Nope.

If Putin actually felt threatened, he wouldn’t be poking the lion with a stick, would he?

And we’re providing arms and money strictly due to our moral superiority?
How is the Ukraine our ally or our responsibility?
When have they ever done anything for us?

Class, what have we learned about the Russia?

Answer #1: don’t rely on your enemies or potential enemies for your energy.

Answer #2: following green energy is a fools errand and you must have a back up plan if green/renewable energy doesn’t fulfill its promises... which it won’t.

Answer #3: in the real world, people (and countries) are evil and will extort you, blackmail you, and make war with you and if you fail to follow #1 and #2 above, your enemies will take advantage of you.

Ukraine is every bit as much a buffer to the Russian bear to Europe, as it is a buffer to Russia from Europe.

As with everything else over the past few years the ruling elite and their media lickspittles will do what they please. In spite of what most Americans want.

In this case they are leading us into a major conflict. Its sickening.

All the money we spent in Iraq, then we were stupid to let the Chinese get the oil.

Biden Admin stalls natural gas pipeline at the behest of environmental activists

The pipeline — which would transport natural gas to an under-serviced area south of Louisville, Kentucky — cannot be constructed pending further environmental review, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) confirmed to the Daily Caller News Foundation on Tuesday. The USACE finalized the reversal on April 20, but the administration appears to have not issued any public announcement or press release about the action.
The Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) recommended that the USACE rescind the permit after two environmental groups, the Center for Biological Diversity and Kentucky Resources Council, threatened to file a lawsuit over the project. The groups sent a 60-day notice of intent (NOI) to sue for alleged violations of the ESA to the Department of the Interior, FWS and USACE on Feb. 28.

The two environmental groups argued that pipeline construction would disturb Indiana bats, gray bats and northern long-eared bats which they said live in underground caves along the proposed route. The FWS has classified Indiana and gray bats as endangered for decades and recently proposed to also list the northern long-eared bat as endangered.

People don’t seem to understand that if things really do not go well for Russia in this war, they WILL pull out the long knives. The longer Ukraine holds out, the more this is going to “leave a mark” on Europe and possibly the rest of the world.

At least, that is how I see this going down.

Remember, Putin’s main excuse for starting this war was to “demilitarize (i.e., disarm) and de-Nazify (i.e, time-honored tactic of employing a bogeyman to justify an action) Ukraine. That is blatant, unwarranted aggression against a neighbor. Russia started all of this. But for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, nothing that followed would have occurred.

Europe is an issue for Europeans, not Americans.
No attacks on NATO countries have occurred.

I’ve had prior interactions with this gator and I’m not interested in his trolling.

And we’re providing arms and money strictly
***Not strictly. This is about oil & gas reserves, nuclear nonproliferation, living up to our agreements when we take nukes off a country in exchange for borders & sovereignty assurances, staring down a regional bully like Hitler & Sudetenland, and doing the right thing against an invader who’s murdering tens of thousands.

due to our moral superiority?
***We do have moral superiority, because Putin INVADED. Or is it not a violation of the Budapest Agreement? Of COURSE it’s a violation, so it is right for us to help Ukraine restore their borders and sovereignty as AGREED by Russia in 1994.

How is the Ukraine our ally or our responsibility?
***They’re a pre-ally in that they had a Membership Action Plan MAP in place to join NATO. They are our responsibility because we signed up for that when we signed the Budapest Accession to the United Nations Nuclear Non Proliferation Treaty in 1994, assuring their borders and sovereignty.

When have they ever done anything for us?
***They took nukes off the table that endangered the lives of hundreds of millions of souls. That seems to count for nothing in your book.

“All the money we spent in Iraq, then we were stupid to let the Chinese get the oil.”

This is MISINFORMATION! Who in the world said, “we” (our so-called political leaders) were smart? The Iraq disaster is just one of many and is only the tip of the iceberg.

And now they’ve driven us into a buzzsaw in Ukraine which can easily escalate into WWIII. Ukraine is none of our business!

What a bunch of fools.

“The Dnipro-Donetsk basin is a major oil and gas producing region accounting for 90 percent of all current Ukrainian production. The structure of hydrocarbons production in Ukraine is as follows: natural gas 89 percent, oil 7.9 percent, and gas condensate 3.1 percent. The primary source of hydrocarbons in Ukraine is natural gas, though the most lucrative gas reserves are located below 5,000 meters.”

whoever controls energy, will be able to control the world......

The chinkers and the ruskies KNOW that — which is why “green” energy is being pushed here — so they can hog the real energy for themselves.

Oil is still black gold...

perhaps this has a lot to do with the Israel-Arab gulf state “alliance” that has formed in the past year or two — they are basically creating an informal gulf-nato / neighborhood watch group. The players in the middle east want to keep the Chinese/Russian fangs away.
