My Mother loved Mathis. She cranked up “Chances Are” 100x

Misty

I think this is my favorite of his songs. What he does to that note toward the end ... it has made my hubby very happy.

God bless him. My father, who liked Mathis, derisively called him “the African queen” because he was supposedly gay.

Johnny Mathis is a member of the last generation of popular singers that really can sing.
It has been downhill in that department for many decades.

Go to see Johnny every chance we get. Little known fact is he was a world classs high jumper at San Francisco and out jumped Bill Russel, who had other talents. Glad he took the singing route instead of track.

I love hearing him sing the songs I associate with him, which are mainly the songs on "Johnny's Greatest Hits"; songs like Chances Are, When Sunny Gets Blue, Twelfth of Never, et al. However, I don't care to hear him sing songs I associate with more manly singers like Sinatra. Johnny sounds too faggoty in those songs.

His early singing is remarkable (although his version of “When Sunny Gets Blue” makes me think “When Sonny Gets Blew.”)

I’ve always liked Mathis’ music... he’s a class act all the way.

Who Cares? He was close friends with Nancy Reagan, and supported President Reagan.

My first mentor, a pop radio disk jockey, called Mathis “Johnny Mattress"

It’s not unusual...

Wonderful, wonderful. It’s not for me to say when someone retires. Chances are he keeps going until he drops.

My mom picked up his Christmas album when I was in elementary school. So Christmas sounded like Johnny Mathis to me.
