Moscow Is Ready for a Nuclear War (As in Lots of Bunkers for the Population)
The National Interest ^ | 7-21-2018 | Charlie Gao

Posted on 04/26/2022 10:17:45 AM PDT by DEPcom

According to Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations, in the event of a nuclear attack on Moscow, there is space in underground facilities for all of the population. While this is a very bold claim, Moscow is famous for the massive amount of bunkers it has available for Civil Defense (гражданской обороны) and the military.

A few nukes in earth penetrating mode spaced around the vicinity of Moscow will render those bunkers creme de la creme crematoria.

The living would envy the Dead.
I read that somewhere.

Sit on the roof and die instantly. Or hide in a bunker and die later, slowly. Your choice.

Dr. Strangelove: I would not rule out the chance to preserve a nucleus of human specimens. It would be quite easy...heh, heh...at the bottom of ah...some of our deeper mine shafts. Radioactivity would never penetrate a mine some thousands of feet deep, and in a matter of weeks, sufficient improvements in dwelling space could easily be provided.

Muffley: How long would you have to stay down there?

Dr. Strangelove: Well let’s see now ah...cobalt thorium G....Radioactive half-life of uh,...I would think that uh... possibly uh... one hundred years.

Muffley: You mean, people could actually stay down there for a hundred years?

Dr. Strangelove: It would not be difficult, Mein Führer! Nuclear reactors could, heh...I’m sorry, Mr. President. Nuclear reactors could provide power almost indefinitely. Greenhouses could maintain plant life. Animals could be bred and slaughtered. A quick survey would have to be made of all the available mine sites in the country, but I would guess that dwelling space for several hundred thousands of our people could easily be provided.

Muffley: Well, I, I would hate to have to decide...who stays up and...who goes down.

Dr. Strangelove: Well, that would not be necessary, Mr. President. It could easily be accomplished with a computer. And a computer could be set and programmed to accept factors from youth, health, sexual fertility, intelligence, and a cross-section of necessary skills. Of course, it would be absolutely vital that our top government and military men be included to foster and impart the required principles of leadership and tradition. Naturally, they would breed prodigiously, eh? There would be much time, and little to do. Ha, ha. But ah, with the proper breeding techniques and a ratio of say, ten females to each male, I would guess that they could then work their way back to the present Gross National Product within say, twenty years.

Muffley: But look here doctor, wouldn’t this nucleus of survivors be so grief-stricken and anguished that they’d, well, envy the dead and not want to go on living?

Dr. Strangelove: No, sir...excuse me...When they go down into the mine, everyone would still be alive. There would be no shocking memories, and the prevailing emotion will be one of nostalgia for those left behind, combined with a spirit of bold curiosity for the adventure ahead! [involuntarily gives the Nazi salute and forces it down with his other hand] Ahhh!

Turgidson: Doctor, you mentioned the ratio of ten women to each man. Now, wouldn’t that necessitate the abandonment of the so-called monogamous sexual relationship, I mean, as far as men were concerned?

Dr. Strangelove: Regrettably, yes. But it is, you know, a sacrifice required for the future of the human race. I hasten to add that since each man will be required to do prodigious...service along these lines, the women will have to be selected for their sexual characteristics which will have to be of a highly stimulating nature.

Russian Ambassador: I must confess, you have an astonishingly good idea there, Doctor.

Better have 10,000 years of food and water in the shelter because it won’t be safe to come out for a while.

“Our strategy is to lose 90% of our population and then get on with fighting the Russians.”
That rids us of all the Democrats, that is a good thing.

“I remember reading about this 30+ years ago.”

Try researching what Russia has done in the last 5 to 8 years.

30 years ago, Soviet Union was in the middle collapsing thanks to President Reagan. Russia was not a threat.

The last 10 years Russia has been rebuilding its nuclear capabilities. Russia is a threat now, don’t be fool by how they are fighting in Ukraine. Ukraine is conventional, Nuke is a different level of danger.

They apparently weren’t ready for a conventional war....................

Russian military doctrine is based on a land war against NATO and includes the deployment of tactical nukes, not a civil war in Ukraine.

They threw away their military doctrine and tried an American "winning hearts and minds" approach that sought to minimize civilian casualties and destruction of infrastructure, something they've not trained for.

It didn't work out in Kiev. Russia will be forced to switch tactics because they can't afford to lose this war under any circumstances.

I am kind of wondering how many are real and how many are on paper only?
You know, the ones, where the money for them build the bunkers in NZ or villas in France.
Maybe some of the Russian trolls here can enlighten me?
They may know.

Pretty scary ....Putin has much less to lose and seems ready to die. It’s not incineration I fear it’s the mad max displacement we may experience. Imagine instantly scrambling for food and survival. I’m not ready I’ll admit it.

Are you sure it’s not DefCon 5?.........................

Could be, but I imagine he really gets pumped by Fallout's story line with bombs dropping on America...

“The billionaires started building those bunkers in the same timeframe as Russia started preparing. A great point”

Likely explains New Zealand’s pacifist approach. They figure that even in an all-out exchange, if they’re not directly hit, they can ride through the fallout and start to rebuild rather quickly. The risk, of course, is that they may find themselves with new masters being that defenseless.

Basically, there would be no winners after a nuclear war.

The movie Wargames (1983) pointed that out in an entertaining way.

“That rids us of all the Democrats, that is a good thing.”

I’d agree, if Putin is willing to limit the yields and keep them centered on our cities. Who knows, in a decade or two, we may look like Hiroshima looks today.

But is he willing to do us that favor? I’d rather not find out.

Damn it i think we are going to war. The last few years may be looked at as a cakewalk in comparison. For God’s sake we are stuck with biden or his people at the helm...not good.

“I have to give the neoliberals here a lot of credit. They chew on the bone with vigor just like their far left brethren at Democratic Underground.”

Yes, very disappointing. They were with us on The Steal, the fake Vaccines, and tons of other stuff. But the Left is playing them like a FIDDLE on Ukraine.

And to think, if we just stayed out, WW3 wouldn’t even be necessary.
