The most common mistake in politics
American Thinker ^ | 23 Apr, 2022 | Jessica Curtis

Rule one in politics: never believe your own BS. Spin away, but do not pretend what you want to be true is the same as what is true. Data do not lie. Democrats seem intent on pretending otherwise in 2022.

Democrats are being told that their problem is not one of actual performance or actual results. The problem, they say, is simply doing a poor job in communicating their tremendous and successful record. Americans have formed their opinions lacking the information on all that has happened since Joe Biden became president and Democrats gained control of both chambers of Congress.

Democrats tell themselves that passing the stimulus bill, the infrastructure bill, confirming the first African-American to the Supreme Court, creating new jobs, and overseeing what they see as good management of the COVID pandemic all deserve the applause of the voters.

Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and many other leading Democrats have given full embrace to making the problem one of messaging, while highlighting their own need to remain in the limelight. Some go so far as to argue that the voters are just plain stupid. Washington Post writer Jennifer Rubin recently penned a column titled "What's a White House to Do about Clueless Voters?"

Another adage in campaign politics is that persuasion begins with meeting the voters where they are in the conversation. Just where are they in this conversation? According to poll after poll, voters are in no mood to be told their perceptions that things are not good are simply a matter of them not being smart enough to see how good we have it.

Don’t get high on your own supply.

Perfect explanation for why conservatism has died.

“confirming the first African-American to the Supreme Court”

What incredible ignorance. How does this person have job in journalism?

... confirming the first African-American to the Supreme Court, ...

Really? Justices Marshall & Thomas are not still considered African-American?

Yes, a typo I know! Otherwise a good read on how deep the Donkey Party is in the Swamp! The party that has depended upon the legendary 'low information voter' and ancestral loyalties has forgot that avoidable errors, major screwups, active wars and an inflation fire that is evident everywhere, is likely a disaster for them! So sorry for them [sarc]!

Conservatives are lazy and apathetic.

They sat by and watched as the Tea Party movement was extinguished. The Tea Party was the only existent conservative organization and conservatives allowed it to be murdered.

Lois Lerner was not attacked and destroyed.

First rule is to quit giving a rat’s ass what the media thinks of you, and what the “establishment” thinks and says as well. MTG is a great example.

The murder of the Tea Party was bipartisan.
McCain and others encouraged what Lois Lerner and others did.

Wow, you doubled down on your first post. It would have been better if you read the article.

The sentence you grabbed your out-of-context phrase begins with “The Democrats will tell themselves...”.

The topic sentence is,”Rule one in politics: never believe your own BS. Spin away, but do not pretend what you want to be true is the same as what is true. Data do not lie. Democrats seem intent on pretending otherwise in 2022.”

As with Nicole Wallace and Steve Schmidt, Jennifer Rubin can’t be a RINO because she was never an “R” to begin with.

The TEA party was NOT a conservative organization.
It was bi-partisan and attracted both the left and the right and united them in a common cause, lower taxes. That is all it was meant to be.

But then both parties hierarchies joined together and started to include “wedge’ issues in the tea party.
Naturally, the movement self destructed.

Only drastic dissociation could allow the Dems, the media in particular, to maintain this increasingly risible party line. The people saying that ten dollar gasoline is fine because the people will be forced to buy electric cars simply aren't the ones who have to watch the price at the pump spiral toward the realm of a house payment. The ones who want to open the borders live in closed neighborhoods, the ones who want to defund the police haven't, until recently, really needed to call them very often. You don't see food inflation if you don't go grocery shopping. And the ones who wonder loudly why the people are unhappy haven't even troubled to ask them.

Cultural alarm bells should have started going off the moment a New York billionaire could not only pose as, but actually become, the only populist hero on the slate. Instead the author's Unholy Trinity of media, academia, and celebrities continue to insulate themselves against the trials of real life and wonder loudly what is wrong with people who can't afford that luxury. "Let them eat cake" didn't work the first time it was tried and it isn't working now.

Far too benign an assessment of Democrats. More like the Kim Jong-un of politics
