I admit I saw this elsewhere but I thought it might be a good thing to put here because honestly I look and listen to songs people post. I am always entertained and it opens my mind to many different avenues of musical tastes I have not known before. I hope ones like this column.
Thick as a Brick
Speaking of Weird Al, my favorite, “Trapped In the Drive-Thru”

How about BOC Then Came the Last Days of May, from their first lp?
30,000 Pounds Of Bananas
"What a great smooth jazz tune, but what are they singing about? Some turnout, a hundred grand / Don't question the little man. Wait, are they singing about NAZIS!?!". Apparently the song is about two guys who go to a huge Nazi rally then return to the stadium after the war.
Eddie Trunk is playing that song on his show right now! I love Maiden's songs. A favorite of mine is Murders in the Rue Morgue. A lot of metal songs tell stories. For example, Anthrax wrote a few songs based on Stephen King stories, such as Among the Living, Skeleton in the Closet, Misery Loves Company and Breathing Lightning.
Yes! That and Me-262!
Dire Straights “Tunnel Of Love”
(ends/fades out with the BEST guitar riff EVER)
“This story song is another semi-autobiographical Mark Knopfler composition, reminiscing about visiting the fairground at the Spanish City in Whitley Bay. As a boy, Knopfler lived in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, about 10 miles away. The fair may have been what inspired him to pursue a musical career; he said once that it was the first place he heard rock ‘n’ roll played really loud. It would eventually close, but for a while “Tunnel Of Love” was its unofficial anthem.”
“Tunnel Of Love”
Getting crazy on the waltzers but it’s the life that I choose
Sing about the sixblade sing about the switchback and a torture tattoo
And I’ve been riding on a ghost train where the cars they scream and slam
And I don’t know where I’ll be tonight but I’d always tell you where I am
In a screaming ring of faces I’ve seen her standing in the light
She had a ticket for the races just like me she was a victim of the night
I put my hand upon the lever said let it rock and let it roll
I had the one arm bandit fever there was an arrow through my heart and my soul
And the big wheel keep on turning neon burning up above
And I’m just high on the world
Come on and take a low ride with me girl
On the tunnel of love
Whoa, love, love
It’s just the danger, danger when you’re riding at your own risk
She said you are the perfect stranger she said baby let’s keep it like this
It’s just a cake walk twisting baby step right up and say
Hey mister give me two give me two now ‘cause any two can play
And the big wheel keep on turning neon burning up above
And I’m just high on the world
Come on and take a low ride with me girl
On the tunnel of love
Whoa, love, love
Well it’s been money for muscle on a another whirligig
Money for muscle and a another girl I dig
Another hustle just to, just to make it big
And rock away rock away
And girl it looks so pretty to me like it always did
Like the Spanish city to me when we were kids
Oh girl it looks so pretty to me just like it always did
Like the Spanish city to me when we were kids
(Check it out)
She took off a silver locket she said remember me by this
She put her hand in my pocket I got a keepsake and a kiss
And in the roar of dust and diesel I stood and watched her walk away
I could have caught up with her easy enough but something must have made me stay
And the big wheel keep on turning neon burning up above
And I’m just high on this world
Come on and take a low ride with me girl
On the tunnel of love
Yeah-eah, the love, love
On the tunnel of love
Whoa-oh, the love, love
And now I’m searching through these carousels and the carnival arcades
Searching everywhere from steeplechase to palisades
In any shooting gallery where promises are made
To rock away rock away from cullercoats and whitley bay out to rock away
And girl it looks so pretty to me like it always did
Like the Spanish city to me when we were kids
Girl it looks so pretty to me like it always did
Like the Spanish city to me when we were kids

Clever and maybe the coup actually could have been on Jim Morrison’s mind, but I doubt he thought it out that thoroughly and exactly. A lot of empires and governments were falling back then — Cuba, Congo, Algeria. It was “The End” in several different places. The Oedipal stuff had to be Morrison’s own, not Madame Nhu’s IMHO.

The hymn, “One Day”, tells a story — tells The Story, actually — in five verses.
1 One day when heaven was filled with His praises,
One day when sin was as black as could be,
Jesus came forth to be born of a virgin,
Dwelt among men, my example is He! [Refrain)
2 One day they led Him up Calvary’s mountain,
One day they nailed Him to die on the tree;
Suffering anguish, despised and rejected,
Bearing our sins, my Redeemer is He! [Refrain]
3 One day they left Him alone in the garden,
One day He rested, from suffering free;
Angels came down o’er His tomb to keep vigil;
Hope of the hopeless, my Savior is He! [Refrain]
4 One day the grave could conceal Him no longer,
One day the stone rolled away from the door;
Then He arose, over death He had conquered,
Now is ascended, my Lord ever more! [Refrain]
5 One day the trumpet will sound for His coming,
One day the skies with His glory will shine;
Wonderful day, my beloved ones bringing;
Glorious Savior, this Jesus is mine! [Refrain]
Refrain
Living, He loved me; dying, He saved me;
Buried, He carried my sins far away;
Rising, He justified freely, forever;
One day He’s coming: O glorious day!
