A man has taken to Reddit to confess he has a severely disabled daughter who he has never met, after informing her mom he was going to "walk away" after she decided not to have an abortion.
In the site's TrueOffMyChest forum, the man, going by username Delicious_Appeal_369, decided to come clean about his feelings towards his daughter.
He explained he and his childhood sweetheart discovered she was pregnant six years ago, when they were 20, and he admitted: "The idea of us getting married, starting a family, and going from best friends to husband and wife was exhilarating."
However, soon after they discovered the pregnancy wasn't "viable"—tests revealed "the fetus suffered from multiple chromosomal/genetic defects and was not developing normally."
In the post, the dad-to-be claims his girlfriend was recommended not to continue with the pregnancy for the sake of her own health.
From that point things soured, as he admitted: "I don't know why, but my ex was insistent on seeing it through. I still to this day do not know why. She and her whole family were not religious. She was liberal in many of her views and always seemed to be pro-choice. Yet, she refused incredibly adamantly to get an abortion, despite them being available to her."
After dating for four years, he walked away when she was 20 weeks, saying: "Another doctor recommended she abort as they were incredibly worried for her own health I told her I could no longer participate in whatever game she was playing. I did not want to play caretaker to a heavily disabled child at the age of 20."
He's never met his daughter but stood by his decision, saying he hasn't regretted it once.

The mother is better off in life.
He is not meeting her on purpose so as to not regret his "decision". If he has any soul he probably would weep bitterly upon meeting her.

Abortion increases the risk of breast cancer and other health issues for the mother. Maybe she understood the risks. Unlike the clueless dude she hooked up with.

The reason this story now is to dilute conservative power and influence.
The comments on the linked story illustrate the ideas that a disabled life is useless & it is a mercy to abort a less than perfect child. Both ideas are self serving if you are the one who would have to support or care for the child.
Not as clear if you are the disabled. How many times have the prenatal diagnoses been wrong and the child born normal? The story vilifies the mother who brought a child into the world to give the child it’s best chance. She “went against” medical advice. She had an obligation to abort/s
If she didn’t abort & he wanted her to he should have no obligation to his child. Left me sick at heart.

The one question unanswered (literally) is “Why did she say *nothing* when asked?”
She has several very defensible and persuasive arguments, but not arguing *anything* suggests *something* else is going on.
I knew of a roughly similar case, where the girl clammed up and wouldn’t say anything, one way or another, to her boyfriend. Finally several other young men took it upon themselves to approach her boyfriend and bluntly told him the child was not his. His girlfriend was just trying to “run out the clock”, so he would be the father by default. A variation of the classical ‘badger game’.
In this case, while there is no way of knowing for sure, a little doubt might go a long way.
While I totally agree with euthanasia for pets, it is EVIL for humans made in God’s image.
Abortion is MURDER!
It was unfortunate the child had abnormalities, but where do you draw that line? Down syndrome kids? Girls, when you wanted a boy?
Also, doctors can be and ARE WRONG all too often. (COVID)
The point is that THERE IS NO LINE!
ALL children MUST BE BORN (unless it will KILL the mother VERY RARE).
That may be the intention, but it seems to me it has the opposite effect.
It is a squirrel to dilute conservative political power.
There are some fetal trisomies that can increase the risk of preeclampsia in the mother, which can be threaten her life.
God bless this mother. Keep her safe and strong, and may she find help and comfort to cherish the child for whatever time the Lord grants them.
