The Duchess of Sussex suffered an awkward gaffe over the weekend after she was photographed painting the Ukrainian flag upside down.
In images released yesterday, Meghan Markle, 40, showed off her maternal side when she joined British Invictus Games families at a book reading on Sunday.
In one snap, the mother-of-two could be seen carefully writing the word 'peace' onto a yellow and blue painting which, at first glance, appeared to be the Ukrainian flag.
However in an embarrassing blunder, the Duchess had painted the flag upside-down, with her artwork incorrectly showing a horizontal band of yellow above a horizontal blue band.
The national flag of Ukraine features a band of blue positioned above a band of yellow.
The images, which were released by the British Embassy, were taken at a private event was held in a tent at the Zuiderpark, where the Invictus Games is being held, on the second day of the event.
The images were taken by her and Prince Harry's wedding photographer, Chris Allerton.
Fashion photographer Chris also took images from the couple's secret christening for their son Archie, as well as some of their final engagements as senior members of the royal family.
Meghan's mistake is particularly poignant given the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have made repeated comments about the Ukrainian crisis at the event and over the last few months.
Last month, the couple announced they had made donations of an undisclosed amount to charities to support the people of Ukraine.
And at the opening ceremony of the Invictus Games, Prince Harry and Meghan paid tribute to the bravery of the Ukraine team, with the Duchess exclaiming: 'Slava Ukraini! (Glory to Ukraine!)'.

“Wait. Isn’t it a yellow sun above a blue sea?”
She’s never been the brightest light on the royal Christmas tree...she just thinks she is.
Maybe she thinks the country is in trouble and going down. A signal if you will. Then again she could think the same about the US. I’ll fly the Stars And Stripes right and fight to keep it flying.
Who. Really cares? I wouldn’t know which way either. More virtue signaling
Meghan Markle is Yoko Ono.
So oppressed as a “ woman of color” she has a personal photographer.
She is respecting the perspective of the Ukrainians who, being on the other side of the planet, would see the flag from below.
What about those legs, highly clowned one?
Or the idiot taking the picture had the camera upside down. Or she had her paint pallet backwards. Wow, so many possibilities. 🥴
Yellow goes on the bottom. It references the fields of wheat - of which, sadly, there will be far less this year.
Blue on top is sky, streams, rivers, and other references.
It’s been the flag for over 150 years.
The Markle probably couldn’t draw the Union Jack.
I don’t like her, but to be honest, it’s an easy mistake to make if, like most Americans, you haven’t spent much time thinking about Ukraine before ‘The Troubles’. It’s just two horizontal bands of two primary hues, with no image or script added.
What would have been a really bad mistake would be if she had mixed the Ukraine flag up with the Russian flag.
She may have required a police escort to get back to her helicopter.
Hopefully the sun sets on the last vestiges of the British empire soon and with it the parasitical monarchy
Well, thank you for your knowledge. I don’t want to appear mean, but I don’t care. I do care about our country as we are being invaded on our southern border.
I think our Southern Border is a crucial concern.
But the thread was about the Ukraine flag, and Markle.
Yellow is for the wheat and land
Yep, guess I shouldn’t have jumped in. My apologies
There’s a talk show: Diggin’ It with Megan and Yoko
I don’t see the British monarchy as parasitical. The crown estates actually turn a profit for the British government. And then you factor in the costs of a figurehead President, tourism due to the royal family and the impartiality of the royal family as opposed to a figurehead President and it works out in favour of the royals.
