"Foreign" Campaign Money Completely Destroys Representative Democracy
Most are aware that political contributions from foreign citizens are illegal in America, and we approve because we believe that only citizens should finance our political campaigns. Even if a foreign national owns a great deal of property in the US, he's not allowed to vote or contribute to political campaigns whose outcomes would effect his property.
Why shouldn't this be true on all political levels? Why should someone "foreign" to your county be able to contribute to a county official he can't vote for, when his contribution may sway the election much more than your vote? Why should someone outside your Senate or House Congressional district be able to contribute to a candidate that he is not allowed to vote for when his contribution may exert much more influence than your vote? Why should a citizen foreign to Texas be allowed to contribute to the campaign of a Texas Senator or Representative that he cannot possibly vote for when his contribution may influence the politicians much more than all Texans?
When an orange-grower in Florida contributes thousands to a Texas senatorial candidate because he thinks he will be helped in Florida, who do you really think that candidate will represent more effectively? You, who may contribute nothing or a few dollars, or the "foreign" orange-grower?
Don't such "foreign" contributions completely destroy representative democracy? Not impressed with how your representatives are concerned about your will? Perhaps it's because their allegiance has been bought off.
Because it was, and it did nothing to prevent corporations from buying off politicians.
BS
Nothing about the government of the United States can be described as a democracy. In fact, the founders specifically stated that democracy does not work, thus, outspokenly avoided the same. Anyone calling our government a democracy is clearly ignorant. We have a republican form of governance or a constitutional representative government.
..............................................
My preference is to call it a Constitutional Republic.
Ahhh but what the founders feared about a democracy has actually come about. The founders made no provision to impede the literal purchase of riff raff votes.
It was the riff raff of Athens that killed democracy. It is the riff raff of the American City States that have been bought with money and the false promises of equality. The riff raff votes allow control of the City States, that in turn allows control of the states that control the nation
we might as well have the country run directly by the CEO’s of the top ten DOW Jones companies.

Reminds me of a recent post where someone suggested that given the abysmal failure of the Federal Government on so many levels, it would probably be to everyone’s advantage if we just have Walmart run the country!
That works.
