—”Steel dashboards.”
And when you and your buds are out horsing around and went through the ditch...
Now you have a dent where a head or other hard body part bounced off the dash.
Bushes still hanging from the underside and someone barfed in the backseat.
“As a Chevy Suburban owner who has been down that road, I have since noticed so many GM trucks with one headlight out.”
We call those “one eye bow ties.” Caused by poor air flow around the headlight causing it to run hotter.
<>I might add the dual purpose jack handle isn’t long enough to provide enough leverage to loosen the lug nuts for many people.<>
Agree. I keep a cheater bar on hand to loosen lug nuts.
My first thought as well. Cheaper than air conditioning on mild days.
Mechanically my RAM is a fantastic truck.
The problem is that the engineers who designed the engine, trans, fuel system, etc. did a great job but the interior and “features” are designed by a different crew.
For instance my radio comes on for the most stupid reasons. I can be driving along with the radio turned off, maybe off for weeks, and suddenly it comes on. I never have found out all of the reasons why, but I discovered one when I pressed the memory button for my seat, mirrors, etc, positions.
Some idiot with the mind of a 13 year old thought that everyone wants to run the radio as long as the engine is running.
That is stupid. How about the farmer who cranks up to go feed the cows. When he has finished that, he goes to his fuel tank to refuel. When he is done with that he goes to....you get the point.
There is a very thin pocket on each side of the center console. I guess it was intended for maps. It is an invention of the devil. A key or ring or the memory card for the dash cam will end up in that pocket and it is so tight that the human hand will not get to that object. It can take hours to fish an item out that a magnet will not latch to.
The same geniuses designed the lights. Projector headlights. If that was meant to be a joke, it was a success. The “project” less than a 1942 sealed beam.
And the GPS update cost is a ripoff. For the price you can buy a GARMIN with a lifetime free update and it is a better unit.
I have the GARMIN big screen semi truck/car unit and never turn on the GPS in the dash..
And the Uconnect radar depiction is a joke. Sometimes I turn it on and am 25 or so miles from home before the weather is depicted. Purchased by a really smart purchasing agent who saved $5.00. Yet the Iphone will latch on to the radar map in an eye blink. I know, one is satellite and the other is cell phone, but my home TV is also satellite and it is quicker than the Iphone.
So the truck is a good example of a great crew manufacturing a great product and some idiot at the final stage ruining it
His brother works in the clothing industry and makes those really expensive cold weather coats and jackets that keep you so warm but are ruined by a fifty cent zipper. He specs the zipper.
I hated the floor-mounted dimmer switch on my old Torino. I always struggled to reach it.
My ‘87 T-Bird has auto-dim but I never use it. The problem is that my own headlights will set it off if I drive up to a new road sign that is highly reflective.
What about station wagons with side seating and a game table? Ford had that in the Country Squire... No are we there yes when we were playing checkers...
👍
One thing about cranks is that while the window may be stuck up or down it never would do what the electric did on the car, up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down in the rain. Did that all the way home.
Yes agree
As I said a website that rated vehicles on their engineering and design may be needed.
With a focus on good engineering not over engineering!
“Not sure about today, but in CT,at one time, it was the law to have windshield wipers, but it wasn’t a law that you had to have a windshield.”
Back in my mis-spent youth, I had a rail type dune buggy that was about 1/2 day work from being a competitive race car.
Got stopped for routine harassment by the local PD one day and got in a debate about the lack of wipers.
It ended with “what are they supposed to do, flap around in the air?”
“Are you being smart with me?”
I had no reply.
Joe Paturbo!!!!!!!!
Stallone could have had a brilliant career as a comedian.
problem is that we put up with crime
I am well aware of that. but there is an additional problem which is that we will never get rid of crime. It will only get worse as long as we have the corruption in government we have today.
Preaching will never change the criminal on the street nor the ones in government. Only powder and lead will change them and that is seriously frowned on by those in power.
So our only recourse until the government falls of its own stupidity and corruption, as have hundreds of government since the fall of Rome, is to take precautions...and one of the major cautions should to be aware of our surroundings when in questionable places,,,and a woman in a super box store parking area should be aware.
me too
I drive a lot so bought a Ford Extended Service Plan warranty when I bought the car in 2017. Not sure what one can haggle it down to anymore but I think I got about 50% off.
Anyhow, my Focus was in the shop a few weeks ago. First time in almost 5 years and 97,000 miles it broke down. Starter went out. I was reviewing my extended warranty and, what do you know! It covers losing that damned key fob! I called and asked and sure enough they replaced it for free.
I think it is stupid to have to turn the engine on in order to roll the windows down.
V-8s and glass packs forever!
Not a problem for me but to each his own. Some people may like rotary dial phones too. :-)
