I always take my metal detector when I go to the desert to find meteorites. So far I’ve found some nails and other worthless crap.

Good luck with that. Once it’s on the ground it just looks like a rock.............

“oilseed rape” sounds like Shropshire is short of lube. The rape of oilseed must not be allowed to continue?
We stopped that sort of thing from happenng in America by call it what it is “ rapeseed oil.”

"Given the amount of wheat and oilseed rape in the area, we have been literally looking for a needle in a haystack."well... no. You may be "literally" looking for a meteorite in a haystack, not a needle.

Easter Sunday we were in Harz Mountains and found Milky Quartz.
This is one piece, with a porcelain frog for scale that I bought in the Wernigerode Castle gift shop:
Here is a piece of milky quartz I dug-up with my stick, to the right another still in the ground.
Milky quartz is common but we only found it in one area.
We found 7 pieces in a 100 yard area along a trail to the
Rapunzel Tower.
Wernigerode Castle from the top of Rapunzel Tower.
The Poor Peoples Tavern is about 50 yards below Rapunzel Tower.
We had curry lamb and our daughter had fish.
Yes it was open on Easter Sunday.

These guys act like the meteorite belongs to them, which I suppose may well be the case over there. If I found a meteorite on my property they could go to the auction and bid on it just like anyone else.

The largest pieces won’t be bigger than an Easter egg As opposed to non-Easter eggs, which are not only different in color from regular eggs, but apparently different in size.
