Spain has informed the European Commission that a joint price reduction plan with Portugal may entail restricting energy sales to France, El Pais reported.
Madrid is its northern neighbor’s largest single supplier of imported electricity, and the potential restriction comes as the entire EU grapples with soaring energy costs.
Spain and Portugal agreed in late March to cap the price of gas used in electricity generation to the equivalent of 30 euros per megawatt/hour ($32.50).
While Brussels granted both countries an exception to its normal rules and allowed this arrangement to go ahead, Madrid and Lisbon then delivered some bad news to Eurocrats, the report said.
According to the documents cited by the newspaper, Spain and Portugal will need to impose “some restrictions” on energy sales to France as a result.
Under an alternative system originally proposed by Madrid, electricity exported to France would be charged at a higher rate than that consumed on the Iberian Peninsula.

Sad that there's no other cheap, easily available energy source for Lectricity.
Crank up them hamster wheels, Frenchies!
France has the highest percent of electricity generated from nuclear power in the world.
(at least they did when I wrote a paper on it)
Where is all their Green New energy they like bragging about?
Getting something you desperately need from someplace you do not control is pure idiocy.
Incidentally, if you drive all the way down California to the Mexican border, right on the other side you’ll find a huge coal fired power plant. It couldn’t be built in California. The amount of copper carrying the power north is amazing, probably a couple of tons for every mile. At least when I was there no power lines led towards Mexico. This is like handing somebody your testicles and saying, “Hey, bud, keep these safe for me.”
As an aside, the entire ride down there were windmills facing the sea. While I’m sure they must turn occasionally, not once in the several trips I took did I see a single blade make one revolution.
Wow. Spain’s kw/hr rate is 3.5 times what our provider charges.
Oh looky. A couple of socialist nations decided to cap the price of natural gas. How precious.
They have been shutting them down like Germany has. Their oldest one was shut down in 2020.
Just the beginning. The Climate nazis will inflict misery and the sheep will wonder what happened.
Yeah, I don't think they took the Pootie Greenie Cray-Cray pills that the rest of the Euro-peeing Onion took...
Yes they did. They have been shutting down their nuke plants since 2020.
It seems they’re making 6 new plants though.
Pootie & Xi approve.
You can’t fix stupid.
France has a number of nuclear plants down due to a design flaw they found in their standardized reactor fleet. That’s the double edged sword it makes it cheaper and faster to build out a fleet of you standardize the design and cookie cutter them. However if you find a flaw such as cracking coolant pumps mounts or pipes. Then you have to shut down every reactor of that design and check them out for the flaw. This is why last I heard 17 reactors were down or will be down for a check out and repair. It’s a temporary issue for.France’s PWR fleet...costly but temporary.
Nothing is perfect, but I still believe nuclear is the main way to go. Add NatGas and hydro(if possible) to round things out...
17 down is very bad if accurate.
More than 6 they plan on 14 new multiple GW sized plants. France is the world leader in nuclear power bar none.
Nuclear is by far the safest power in bulk humans have come up with. Not only from air quality but also direct loss of life vs number of megawatt hours produced over its lifetime. Nothing comes close to the safety of nuclear. Even counting Japan and the USSR and three mile Island coal has killed tens of thousands directly and indirectly in its mines. Nuclear hasn’t killed even a thousand even including the statistical extra cancers from the first two incidents. TMI didn’t release radiation of lasting isotopes nor in an amount to.raise the background level at all.
Yeah it was 17 some are back online by now.

Thanks for the info and link.
“This is the way”

Small.modular. Made in a factory to a certified design them transported.by conventional.means no special movers needed. Crank them out like gas turbines from a factory less than two years from first pour of concrete to busbar power. Rolls Royce makes these exact reactors for the British Navy and just like the US Navy they have never had a meltdown or core breach. Let the experts make the cores and use Navy trained people to run them. With low cost off peak power take CO2 from the air combine it with water and electricity make methanol or methane with the CO2 and water or use nitrogen from the air and maler ammonia. Exxon has been turning methanol into pure octane and Propane for 30+ years using the MTG process. NASCAR used to run on methanol as did F1 its 130 octane you can go to crazy levels of turbo boost with methanol fuels. Ethanol with 116 octane can go to 50 psi of boost I personally have run E85 at 25lbs of boost and well over 500hp in a rally car that was a 2.4 liter 4 banger. Alcohols scream boost me.
