Early on, from what I recall, the genetics suggested a bat virus. I’ve not heard of this theory being discounted. That does NOT mean that it ‘jumped’ species into man, merely that a bat virus was what the PLA biologist started ‘souping up’, to infect humans.

There are multiple peptides in venom and some do the opposite of others, even in the same venom.
