Raspy-voiced comedian and character actor Gilbert Gottfried has died at the age of 67, his family announced in a heartfelt message with a photo of the funnyman on Twitter.

The comedian died Tuesday due to complications from muscular dystrophy, his friend and publicist Glenn Schwartz said in a statement.

Gottfried voiced the animated character Iago in the 1992 film Aladdin and also was behind the Aflac Insurance duck mascot.

'We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved Gilbert Gottfried after a long sickness,' the family tribute said.

'In addition to being the most iconic voice in comedy, Gilbert was a wonderful husband, brother, friend and father to his two young children,' it continued.

'Although today is a sad day for all of us, please keep laughing as loud as possible in Gilbert's honor.'

The note was signed: 'Love, the Gottfried family.'

Gottfried and his wife, Dara Kravitz, whom he married in 2007, share 14-year-old daughter Lily and son Max, 12.

Schwartz said that Gottfried suffered from recurrent ventricular tachycardia, a form of heart failure, due to myotonic dystrophy type II.

It’s when one chamber of the heart goes into overdrive and the other chamber stays normal.

Ventricular tachycardia (VT or V-tach) is a type of abnormal heart rhythm, or arrhythmia. It occurs when the lower chamber of the heart beats too fast to pump well and the body doesn’t receive enough oxygenated blood.

Myotonic dystrophy type 2, one of the two types of myotonic dystrophy, is an inherited muscular dystrophy that affects the muscles and other body systems (e.g., heart, eyes, and pancreas). It is characterized by prolonged muscle tensing (myotonia) as well as muscle weakness, pain, and stiffness.

Gilbert Gottfried did a podcast with Joe Rogan late last year.

I enjoyed it.

Tachycardia, very rapid heartbeat, above 100 bpm. The ventricles are the lower chambers that pumps blood out to the lungs and the body. The right ventricle pumps to the lungs. The left ventricle pumps out the aorta to the body.

If the heartrate gets too high, it is fibrillating (quivering) and no blood is pumped. Not sure where/if there is a boundary line. My device is set to defibrillate at 190 bpm.

I wonder if a pacemaker/defibrillator would've helped him?

Ventricular tachycardia can either be stable or unstable. Pulseless ventricular tachycardia is when the lower chambers of the heart take over as the pacemaker and beat too fast to effectively eject blood from its chambers. There is monomorphic V-tach which means the exact same electrical trace on each beat (that the abnormal pacing comes from a single spot) to polymorphic VT — where there are multiple competing generators of the rhythm so they look different to ECG.

A special king of VT — Torsades is when there is a sine wave appearance to the ECG and usually is propagated by something called q on t phenomena where the repolarization of the heart takes a longer time than usual and as such when an impulse hits, there is a rhythm that sets up.

In cases there the VT is pulseless, it is imperative that CPR is started immediately, and the patient is defibrillated quickly. If VT has a pulse, generally the trick is to defibrillate the patient, but in conjunction with the beats that are occurring (called synchronous defibrillation).

And unlike the putz who tries to make everything about the COVID vaccination, VT is a very real and sudden cause of cardiac death. VT / VF is the reason every person should know how to give effective CPR because you can save a life.

I am sad to hear Of his passing — he was one of my favorites.

Yes, an AICD would have likely saved him.

I am so broken hearted by this. I have loved Gilbert since I discovered him in the late 80s. He had a one man play called Norman’s Corner that was on Showtime, I believe. Funniest commedian.

I pray for his wife and family.

I think it was the vaxx, because you can have devices put on your heart that will counteract that. On the other hand, Gilbert could have been like Norm and just ignored it.

I loved Gilbert too. He would intro skin flicks in the 90s on Up All Night and he seemed to really enjoy it. He was probably Norm’s best guest on his videocast.

You are a putz.

Ah the gas quack rears its head. Tell me, are you still telling your patients to google it when they ask for the contents of the poison placebo during informed consent? I know “off topic” but people do have a right to know.
