I saw Gottfried doing stand-up back in the late 80's. There was a table of 15 or so people next to ours, one of them had apparently won a radio contest where the prize was a night at this comedy club for the winner and some friends. I and the people I was with were absolutely in tears during GG's set, but pretty much that entire table was stone-faced through most of the show. Guess they didn't get his humor. RIP.

Myotonic Dystrophy type II is an inherited genetic disease that he was born with. It’s a form of muscular dystrophy that can affect the heart.
